Most districts took advantage of a state program to fund money for full time kindergarten 8 years ago. I would guess less than 20% is still half day.

Kings Park is half day.........very annoying!

Northport-East Northport School District #4 is currently conducting a feasability study for full day kindergarten. It looks like it will probably happen as there is great support in the community for it.

Geez, you would think of all this tax money being paid that it would have been full time from the get go.

Kindergarten is NOT required by NYS law!

When NYS saw the need for full time Kindergarten , they offered schoold districts zero to low interest loans to build extra classrooms, equipement and staffing. If the district said no, like KP, they are now on their own to bond money for it.

Nowadays, Kindergarten teaches what I learned in 1st grade! Crazy!

I heard quite the opposite from teachers themselves (who have seen these "studies" being done over the last 20 years (every few years, they do it again)..
and if it WERE to happen for SEpt, it would have been decided by now.

Again, this was "heard it through the grapevine" chatter, but it sounded pretty convincing. Based on reasons they knew about (not enough space being the main factor I think) it's just not possible to happen for this Sept..
