I've had both and let me start off by saying picture quality wise, fios was better. I don't watch a ton of tv so the difference to me wasn't important. Internet wise I surf the web and stream netflix from apple tv with no problem from either. Never had outages except for sandy/irene. I've switched back to optimum only bc of price. Fios' pricing gets tricky and kept rising b/c your 6mo discount here, 12 month discount there.... If I watched enough tv I'd pay for the superior product but again I don't, so I'm currently at cable vision.
1) optimum preferred, ultra 50 internet, landline (this is a one year promotion that I'm currently in my 2nd year after renegotiating)
2) $119
3) no outages
I can't stress enough that I have no problem with fios and if I move there is a good chance I'd go back but with fios' taxes and escalating prices just make sure you ask what your bill will be in 18 months b/c aside from that it's a good service.

the picture are IDENTICAL with both services. the only differemces are that there is a one second delay when changing channels, cable doesnt charge for hd and you can pick up some cable channels without a cablebox still.
