dumb ques....does it matter?
aside from gamers or D/L giant gigs of files... I don't think it matters. As noted, I get 15/5 with fios. With a PC and maybe two tablets in use, I get no degradation at all. I can stream with no issues either.
Fios tried to sell me faster speed...oh its only $5 more a month.....I always declined.

it's funny you're talking about this because Optimum was bragging all over tv that they were 3X faster than FIOS and they weren't comparing apples to apples. Optimum with boost @ 50Mbps comparing FIOS' lowest tier of 15Mbps. Meanwhile, FIOS had 150Mbps too. What a joke.
When I had Optimum I lost the internet at least twice a day (the gateway was down... whatever that means). Never had a problem since I switched to FIOS unless it was a power outage. NEVER going back no matter what the price.
I wish I could either switch to Verizon FIOS triple play (again, my condo complex does have their service, Verizon is just giving me a hard time for whatever reason) or convince Cablevision to drop my price (I don't really care about free Starz, Encore, Showtime, or Ultra 50, to be honest).
The hub serving your building could be full and Verizon doesn't want to have to split a node or run more fiber.
That could be too. I've been told that they lose money on Verizon FIOS services, and they lose money on cellular voice and text and only make money from data plans. I have only a basic phone and no data plan (too expensive), so I guess they are not making any money off of me, so maybe that is why they are reluctant to let me sign up for another service that they'll lose money for.

I was down the street from an elementary school and it seemed as if when the school day started I always lost the connection and then again at night when most people were home logging into their computers. Back then Optimum was a shared connection (I don't know if it still is) and I think it was maxed out. Good luck getting them to replace your modem and/or line it was easier to switch to FIOS.
People at work who still have Optimum complain about their TV picture breaking up, I don't have that problem either.
