You have to look at a contract and see where the step increases are positioned along a salary scale to determine that.
Another argument for consolidating districts I guess.
Yes there probably are some years where teachers won't qualify for a step, but many districts have over 20 steps not to mention longevity increases as an incentive to remain with the district. I always thought there should be some demonstration of ability to get a step increase, it should not be automatic based on just credits accumulated or time served.

No, those of us in superior school districts don't want consolidation, it's as simple as that.

I bet the residents of Garden City and Rockville Centre might feel differently (Hempstead) or Merrick and Freeport. I guess it really depends on who you border. Consolidating school district risks bringing kids into your school you may not want (NCLB).

Hilarious and so typical... lol - There's no thought long term. Like there's an impenetrable bubble around certain towns. They can operate at a net loss, cap taxes against exponentially rising liabilities, lower salaries / cut benefits for teachers... all the while keeping layers upon layers of administrative overhead so they can pretend they remain "superior" in their little fiefdom... of course ignoring what is happening 1 block away because "they're in that bad district". I have little doubt this attitude will NIMBY themselves into the ground.

haha - always makes me smile. I've yet to meet one of these so called bible thumpers. Weird considering how this is such a common misconception and can't figure out where it's coming from... meanwhile after a bit of a lull the past year, the NY plates and moving trucks are out in force again lately. Recently I can't leave my house without seeing another one.

.
Theres plenty of thought to long term. I can afford my taxes and I don't feel teachers are overpaid. I wasn't priced off Long Island and I appreciate my school district and all that it offers. I don't want it watered down so that people like you can afford to stay here because that's not my concern. My concern is only for my child and my family that's in the district. Sorry if this hurts your feelings, but if you can't afford to live here then don't live here, it's really that simple.

Quite the contrary...I seek them out because if anyone needs religion in their life on this forum...it would be me
