What I don't understand are the people saying no because of an underground basement. You are correct that the air stays cool in an underground but that cool air also lets dampness collect which leads to mold. Running the A/C in the basement when it is on in the rest of the house prevents this. The only other option is running a dehumidifier in the basement which is basically just an air conditioner without an outside vent
So pumping in 57 degree air in a already cool basement is good? 9 times out of 10 there is wayy to much air being fed to the basement and it makes it cold and clammy.
Furthermore When the upstairs is calling for cooling your basement will still be pumping out cold air. If anything just add a return air grille to the basement to circulate air, cool air drops anyways.
