Just saw a short clip on News12 on the 10pm addition (3/25) that NY state has done an audit and found gross fraud and waste with the STAR program and everyone will need to re-apply. Go figure, something that benefits the people has to get re-worked but anything having to do with Albany being screwed up is just no problem. Anyone have anymore info on this? I tried looking it up but didnt see anything. Also I just bought my house in November and subsequently applied for this May deadline I believe it is, you think I will have to apply again?
Yep it's true there is a newsday article on it now. According to it, all homeowners will need to reapply by April 2014. Supposedly notifications (by mail I'm Sure) will be sent to all star recipients sometime this year.

This is code not only for catching people frauding the system but also to catch those who forget to file the paperwork on time and get extra $$$$
ALBANY - New York will require homeowners to re-register for the STAR property-tax rebate in an effort to crack down on fraud.
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and lawmakers have inserted the requirement into the 2013-14 state budget that they intend to enact this week.
Unless this new process as part of the state budget will end up costing us taxpayers even a penny more, I don't mind it one bit.

Agreed, although I don't trust where they say the savings will go. I'd say refund it back to the taxpayers directly.
