Hey All,

I just had an install for oil to gas conversion from a reputable plumber. These guys were good. Price was better than anyone else.

now I need to run a gas pipe from the boiler room to the kitchen (about 35 feet of pipe) and another one for the gas dryer. Its in the same room.

The plumber is asking $1500 for the job. That includes drilling a hole to the outside of the house for the dryer vent

Is that unreasonable for this price? Any suggestions for plumbers in the Nassau County (Franklin Square) area?

Thanks

Home Depot and a friend. If you run black pipe instead of copper it's easy.

If not, I reccomend:

A Montilli Plumbing & Heating
(516) 569-6565
3199 Lawson Blvd, #A, Oceanside, NY 11572

Anthony Montilli did my gas lines for the dryer before I figured out how to do it myself.

My neighbor is a General Contractor who is doing most anything due to the economy, he might be cheaper:

Z Force Construction
(Licensed and Insured)
516 865 2077
speak to John

thats the problem. I have the line coming into the boiler but I need to T it off and run it from there.

There's not much to know except for making a good seal with the pipes and putting the correct fittings on there. right?

Well there are a few simple facts you should also pay attention to. Like maybe, the fact that if you screw something up your HOUSE COULD EXPLODE?!

Why is it that people pay painters, upholstery cleaners, and roofers,(all easy jobs for DIY'ers) and try to pinch pennies on electrical and gas?

Shop the job around. Give it to the lowest bid who shows that they KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING.

^^I agree. Don't mess with gas piping if you have no experience.

NO NEED TO PUT THINGS IN CAPS. I'M NOT A CHILD AND I DO KNOW WHAT I AM DOING.

Hence the fact I'm looking for a plumber here and to see if that was a reasonable cost.

I've done work before with electrial and gas but this is a bigger job than expected.

thats why i'm SHOPPING AROUND AND LOOKING FOR REPUTABLE PEOPLE TO DO THE JOB.

Is that clear?

CONSIDER THE FACT THAT YOU ARE ASKING A POOL OF PEOPLE THAT INCLUDES IDIOTS LIKE MYSELF FOR ADVICE ON HOW NOT TO BLOW UP YOUR HOUSE.

Then crack a cold one.

If you have pipe dope at every connection, you will SEE it bubble if gas is leaking. It's not that complicated. Just make a good seal like you said. Cut where you need to add the T, add the T, and job well done. I use black pipe not copper so you'll need to thread the pipe where you cut in, of course.

Hell, you could practice on a few pieces of scrap and put water through it to if you were really that worried about not being able to put together some pipe that does not leak. lol.

If you go copper I'm not sure what Schedule is needed for Gas, you may want to check that. Also add a cut-off valve or two in a spot you think works well. I believe the valves with the red plastic handle are NOT the correct ones for gas. Thats what we used but if you're ever going to sell or get any kind of inspector down there.. use the right ones.

You know what? In reality you could probably go down to any plumbing supply store and just ask them how to do it. Doesn't Lowes or Home Depot pride themselves on showing consumers how to do this kind of thing ?

I wouldn't use copper. Not sure if local code here allows for it but even if it did, do a little research. Black pipe only.

I wouldn't ask Lowes or HD for gas line installation advice.

I work for a public utility, and can tell you that when a house goes BOOM, this is usually the reason why. A DIY'er who cut corners to do what seems like an easy job.

BUT WHAT DO I KNOW?
