I have a relative coming to LI to visit a friend in the Lynbrook area. The relative will be staying at a hotel in Rockville Center. The question is, would it be safe for him to walk 2 miles from Rockville Center to Lynbrook. My guess would be along Sunrise. I live about 1-1/2 hours east, so I cannot be his transportation. I don't know if he will be able to afford a cab. He is in his mid 20s, but somewhat naive. Thanks for your help.

He should be safe as long as he stays on the sidewalk.

I wouldn't suggest making that walk in the middle of the night, but during the day, he should be OK. I've done it several times. He does not have to walk along Sunrise Highway. He could also walk along some of the residential streets, depending on his destination.
