My family is Jewish but not religious. We used to live in Manhasset and although everyone was very nice it is the type of town that unless you grew up there it was a little harder to break into some of the social networks. We then moved to Port Washington which we LOVED. While there is no religious vibe like say Great Neck or the Five Towns, everyone is made to feel comfortable. Now I must move east. I was considering Lloyd Harbor but have been lead to believe that the Cold Spring Harbor District, while great schools and great place to live, may be alot like Manhasset was. Any information to the contrary would be helpful. Saw two houses on the water in Centerport/Harborfields SD that looks wonderful but I know nothing about that area. Is there a jewish population there? Again, I am less concerned about synoguages, etc than the vibe. Is there a community feel like Manhasset and Port has? I have considered like Muttontown/Brookville (and while maybe not east enough) but have heard there is no community feel there???? I know Northport may fit the bill better but that is starting to get too east for us. Any help is appreciated.
Based on what you are saying, yes, CSH may be very much like Manhasset in that cliquey regard. I would say your best bet is absolutely Harborfields. There is a mix of Jewish and Catholic, but neither is an overwhelming presence. There are also a small number of other religions mixed in. There is a synagogue on Park ave as well as many Chrisitian houses of worship throughout the area. The area def has a community feel but not as cliquey as some other areas. I would say it's on the vibe of PW to some extent. There are many people who did grow up in the area, but many newcomers as well.
I would say that Northport is a bit more of what you describe, with many people having grown up there. So I absolutely believe your best bet is Harborfields.
Harborfields is probably good because it draws people who grew up in all the surrounding towns - I grew up in Huntington and a lot of people I went to HS with live in Harborfields now. I do believe N'port is a little more on the cliquey side.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Harborfields Central School District includes all or part of the Hamlet of Centerport, the Hamlet of Greenlawn, the Hamlet of Huntington Station and the Hamlet of Huntington.
