That entire area was originally supposed to be an industrial park. In the late 80's, that area was plagued by sinkholes from the zinc mine nearby. Nobody wanted to build anything there, so the developers need to do something. So a golf course was built, considering that sinkholes wouldn't do too much damage to it.

20 years later the Promenade was built across the street. Granted, the zinc company has long since closed, but they have had some sinkhole problems already. I guess those that don't learn from their past.....

Yeah, you can't see it from the ground due to overgrown vegetation, but literally a hundred or two feet east of the Promenade Shops is the remnants of an old zinc mine. I think Stabler bought all that land from some Bethlehem Steel subsidiary in the early 1980s for pretty much nothing.

I miss the east coast as well and go home to visit whenever possible.
I remember ...
Georgie's Farm (Palmer Township, now a housing development)
Family Reunions at Bushkill Park
When Jimmy's Hot Dogs was on the river
Knowing it was Christmas time because the candles replaced the statues on the circle

...you take the Lehigh Valley Mall for granted, and don't think it is anything special, until you overhear someone on the phone at the mall ranting about how awesome it is.

It is a pretty large mall, but KOP is more than twice the size.

Lehigh Valley Mall
No. of stores and services 146
No. of anchor tenants 3
Total retail floor area 1,170,000 square feet

King of Prussia Mall
No. of stores and services 400+
No. of anchor tenants 7
Total retail floor area 2,391,000 square feet
An estimated 20-25% of visitors are tourists.
