The way the panels connect to one another with hose clamps and rubbber hoses, leak all the time. Hubby goes on roof to tighten. They are NOT freeze proof even though our FAFCO warrenty says it is. We live in Tampa, FL.
Ask neighors, go to pool stores and do your research before you commit. We also bought an electric heater that we use each Christmas for a wonderful time, worth every penny
I had FAFCO solar panels in California for 20 years. Over that time, I had probably 1 leak discovered on start-up per year fixed under warranty, and 2 panels that died but were replaced under warranty.

With the FAFCO system, you absolutely have to "winterize" and "statup" the system. Winterizing entails going on the roof to open up everything & let them drain out so that they don't have water in them during the freeze/thaw cycles. Startup is basically reversing the winterization.

your mileage may vary.

When I built my system, I used a seperate booster pump, independent of the regular pump. My system is going on its fourth year and I wouldnt trade it for gas, ever.

For all you people that have freezing problems, you need to drain them during the winter.

My system has a pressure-regulated check valve that allows the water to drain back into the pool whenever the pump turns off for the day. No winterizing per se, other than simply turning solar mode off with my remote.
