I live in Southern California with my partner. We are both teachers who are tired of the rat race in California. We want to know if Las Vegans are open-minded and tolerant people, the way we think they would be. Is Las Vegas a good place for gay people who want to fit into society and just be accepted???

Well all depends...basically no one cares...Mostly no one will notice.

If one flames in the wrong place you might get some attention from our rednecks...then again so would a hetereo...

It is laid back a bit as compared to coastal CA.

Yep, overall Las Vegas is pretty ho-hum about any of the usual lifestyle issues. It's mostly live and let live, none of my business.

You might want to get another perspective, however. I don't know if these are the most important gay sites, but you might contact someone here:

I can't address the homosexual issue, but if you're seeking to escape the "rat race," I'm not sure that Las Vegas is the place. I haven't seen much difference in the live fast, "one-up-the-Jones'," attempted display of wealth and lifestyle between Kali and many areas in Las Vegas, like Summerlin.

It appears to me that there's an equal rate of heavy mortgage carrying, max car loan BMW driving, designer purse carrying individuals, pretending to be something that they aren't in both places. Each have to keep powering their way through their employment just to keep up appearances while they try to live in the fast lane. One little slowdown in the economy and they're in big trouble . . . hummm, sounds familiar doesn't it?

Actually Garth we are ***** cats as compared to coastal CA....and as comparted to Reno Taho. You really want to run with the big dogs head north.

Thank you Olecapt, Garth, and New City V. I appreciate your comments and information. You made me feel a lot more re-assured that Las Vegas has the people who I expected it to have. Can't wait to relocate!

I knew some gay people in Las Vegas and they seemed to like living there, they had no problems. There is a gay district near UNLV with clubs and such.

The gay people I know in Vegas seem to be doing fine. They have lots of friends and things to do. I haven't heard anyone complain.

I don't think people really care.

Yeah, Vegas is pretty much apathetic to nearly everything. Its probably one of the best cities for gays since people really don;t care about anybody else. And I mean that in a positive way as we just live our own lives and let others live theirs.
