My partner and I decided to retire here about four months ago mainly for the weather and the cheap real estate prices. Having lived in cities with an actual "gayborhood", Las Vegas has been a disappointment. I didn't think I'd miss having access to a visible gay community all that much, but I really do. Although nobody has been openly hostile to us, there just isn't much of a gay "vibe" in this city. I'm glad I didn't rush to buy property here because I've decided to move to Palm Springs as soon as my lease is up. I now realize I'd rather pay a little more to live in a place where I feel I fit in. Just my opinion.

I'm a gay male and wouldn't recommend living here. I'm not typically one for the gay community, but it does get a little exhausting when you mix in the difficulty of meeting other normal, professional people who live in this city. Another posted about the "Joneses," and I certainly find that mentality to be true here. It reminds me a lot of LA, actually....but some people in Los Angeles actually have money.

My only serious moment was being called a ****** when walking into a grocery store near the Strip, but that's in the ghetto. Now when I'm in that area I be sure not to wear anything other than jeans and a T so easy fix.

Vegas is cheaper than cheap, with an abundance of entertainment options and cheap direct flights most places but like everything else, I'd say you get what you pay for. I'd recommend booking an airbnb for a week in an area you're considering and seeing how you feel after the week is up.
