Moving to Vegas soon...sold our house out of state. Husband already in Vegas. He has been looking at properties...we were hoping to find a great home already with pool and nice features. Every nice one that wasn't out dated inside was a short sale. We didn't want a $200-$300 fixer upper. Good luck with that with all the forclosures and short sales...we have no patience for that. He recently has been looking at the DR Horton community Cactus Hills Estates. Any info?? He works at the airport so we had been wanting to be Henderson/Green valley or southwest area.

Nice homes. The area (basically Blue Diamond and Jones) is still a little remote, although it's not too far from shopping near Blue Diamond and I-15. You'll get a little more bang for your buck in that area than you will in others.

I looked at homes next door in Cactus Hill Crossing. The models were nice, as most models are, but I wasn't as impressed with the neighborhood. The people who already had moved in didn't seem to have much pride of ownership - unkept yards, trash out of cans and in the street on garbage day, etc. Cactus Hill Estates is a little more upscale, though, and you might not find a similar situation there.

Good luck.

YOu pay about a 15% premium for a new build. Than you have 5% to 10% to finish off and do the backyard...then you double what you will effectively pay for a swimming pool. All up you likely pay a premium of 20 to 30% for a new built with pool.

That is a reasonably hefty premium for new and shiney appliances...

Thank you both for the information...I know you always pay more for a new build. New isnt always just about having new appliances. I mainly wanted information about the area...the neighborhood....safety..schools, ..shopping and such. We have a 13 year old boy. Its always great to hear information about how people are or are not taking care of their property in a new neighborhood after time goes by. I dont want to live in trash and cars parked all down both sides of the street. We take pride in ownership of whatever we own.
