My wife is working on an AA degree in nursing.

What would that get her in Vegas...without experience...and is there a special license than anyone who does nursing in Nevada would need?

A friend of mine just graduated from a local nursing school with an AA degree to become an RN, literally her graduation was this last weekend.

She has been job hunting and all the hospitals told her they aren't publically hiring any new grads. They are hiring, but experienced only. However, she did a preceptorship and got an excellent letter of recommendation from her preceptor along with being class valedictorian. She was told that she could be hired for one of several positions at the hospital she did her preceptorship at which are not publically advertised. She is working on that now and it is looking like she will be working in the ICU after she passes her NCLEX.

She did say that she could have gotten hired in other places like assisted care facilities, but she really wanted to work in the hospital and I believe the pay is better too. Also, there is a new VA hospital opening near Aliante, I believe within the next year, so they will be hiring nurses there as well. The nursing schools are pumping out tons of nurses too though, it seems to be the fall back for a lot of people nowadays.

In terms of your other question, yes a nurse needs to have completed curriculum from a Nevada accredited school and passed the NCLEX-PN (for LPN) or NCLEX-RN (for RN) and subsequently passed a background check (no felonies) and paid the necessary fees to get licensed in Nevada.
