Actually I just looked the community up on the KB Web site and I don't think it's close to the pig farm. From looking at the map it looks like you will be up closer to Centennial H.S. If you are zoned for that school then you will be okay, that's actually a pretty decent high school. If I had to put my kids in one school NLV it would be in that high school. I've subbed there quite a few times and it's not a bad school.

Do you know the middle and high school that the house is zoned for? I have subbed in just about all of the middle and high schools in the valley.

I'm one of the ones that points out the bad things about NLV. I lived in the valley for nearly 10 years, I just moved away at the end of last year. I personally wouldn't buy anywhere in NLV, but especially anywhere within smelling distance of RC Farms.

If you'd like to no more specifics or have questions that I can answer as a parent that moved my kids away from that city please feel free to send me a private message. If I post my thoughts here people get very upset and stomp their feet, they don't like opinions that agree with theirs (it's that whole "we love tolerance" thing but not if you disagree with me). :-)

But it sounds like it's a done deal. You bought the house already. That's kind of the problem about buying a home in a city that you don't really know. My advice would have been to move to the valley and live in an apartment for like the first 6 months so you could really take your time looking around and talking to people and comparing places.

I hope it does go well for you. Please report back to us what your thoughts are --- what you think after arriving, after 6 months, after a year, once you are ready to move away. :-)
Actually if you would like to know why you never listen to RWF on anything dealing with Las Vegas or particularly North Las Vegas drop me a PM. RWF is often quite an astute observer...but never in the aformentioned context.

As I remember you had already decided on private school. But if you would like the middle school and high school I would be glad to supply them. They did not exist when RWF was here but she may still have an opinion.

Please do report back as the experience unfolds. You provide insight those of us who have been here a while lack. And if it goes like it does for many of us you can help keep RWF in her place.

You are in North Las Vegas. Centennial High School has no zoning inside North Las Vegas. It therefore is improbable that Centennial has any bearing on your schools. You are in fact in the zoning of Legacy High School.

You are within a couple of miles of the pig farm. But that is not really a big problem.

You know have a good calibration on RWFs understanding of things geographic...or lack there of.

oh good! I was getting worried...but i think we will be okay now. Like I said, my son is only 4months right now, and we might not even still be in Vegas by the time he is in school. Im also happy about the pig farm thing...i would have raised hell to KB if they neglected to tell me my neighborhood is smelly!

as far as not knowing the area....yea, we considered doign the apartment thing for a few months, but we got a REALLY good deal on our new home and i think we will ultimately be happy with it. I know that NLV doesnt have the greatest rep, but the more I talk to people (including hearing from those on this forum) the more Im realizing that the newer parts arent bad at all (though some will still stigmatize the area simply because of the name) Its like that anywhere really...

we shall see....

If you click on OLECAPT at the top of a message I have sent you will get a menu that includes "Send a Private Message".

Note by the way that you can't get a PM as you have that turned off at your "my settings" area. You migth considr turning it on. It is not used much but it allows someone who has need to approach you privately.

Brand new members don't have their PM function activated immediately due to spam prevention measures. You should be ok to send and receive PMs in another day and a few more posts.

I am taking bets (IT'S VEGAS BABY!) that you will smell the pig farm often. Whether it bothers you or not is another thing. But they should have revealed it. My daughter lives probably three miles or so west of the farm and it's pretty strong at her house most of the time. She doesn't mind it. Says it gives a rural feel to her neighborhood. It's not just pigs; it's cows too. To me it's the slop they feed them that smells more than pig poo. I could be wrong. RWF is right, it's RC Farms and they were there way before any homes were built so anyone buying there has no right to complain. Same thing with the airplanes. Nellis has been there since WW II. Regardless, you will like the neighborhood. Not sure if the jets from Nellis fly over that far north. Probably. I lived with them going over my house at Decatur and Lone Mtn. Rd. for seven years and never minded it at all. One of the jet jockies lived right next door to us and he'd fly over and tell me he checked out our houses while we were working. I still get some of it way up here off Alexander, and I get a lot of the Grand Canyon flights from NLV Airport going over.

My daughter has been school teacher in CCSD for many years and she plans on sending her daughter to Faith Luthern. She wouldn't send a kid to public school she says. I have a good friend whose daughter went to Faith Luthern and they think it is a very good school. She graduated this year as a straight A student and was awarded a full ride at Gonzaga. There is a Faith Luthern right off the I-215 beltway. You'll see it on the left when you go west from your place on the beltway.
