So I've finally decided to save up my money and just move to Vegas!! I've been browsing these forums and such, and it's just reinforcing my urge!

I was hoping to get some advice, and opnions. What do you consider to be neccessities when living in Vegas? How's the employment outlook seem? Where's the most affordable and safe places to live/rent? Average rent?
What's your overall opinion of Las Vegas?

The neccessities when you move here is to have at least money to live on for 6 months to a year in case you can't find work. Las Vegas and the surrounding area's Henderson,North Las Vegas are in Clark county which unemployment went from 13.1% to13.8% .
Average rent depends on what area of town you want to live in.
Vegas is a great place to live if you have a job there is allot to do and the weather is great.

It's no secret Nevada owns one of the nation's worst economies.

It did go up but the article atributes it to the construction business lost...Having money for 6 months is a good idea, as there is work but many will not work for 8-9$ per hour..Some on here as you know will lambaste the idea of moving to Las Vegas as stupid, just blow these people off and do what you think is right. THings are going to start looking up soon, it will not be like it was 3 years ago but that is a good thing. MAybe casinos will get the idea and start taking care of locals again! I too am moving there in May, but my family is returning to Henderson from Ohio and my wife already has a teaching job. I was supposed to have a job at Henderson International as the Aquatics Director, but am waiting word on if that was one of the jobs done away with. I am positve though that I will find work, or at least a job to hold me over til I get what I want when things get going in about year

Unemployment numbers only reflect those eligble for benefits. Doesn't reflect the real number or those who are "underemployed" doing anything they can to get by.

Summer is a tough time to move because it's extremely unpleasant to unload your belongings in the summer.

Make sure you have central air and not a swamp cooler, and make sure you budget extra to run the A/C.

Vegas has pretty bad drinking water, and not so great air quality.

I like it. But it's certainly not a paradise.
