Ok, stay with me...

I was laid off recently, and most of the bites I'm getting for jobs are out of town.

I interviewed for a job on Friday in another city, and flew home Saturday.

As we came out of the clouds right over Lake Mead (I see that bridge at Hoover Dam is almost done), it struck me how the natural beauty of the place is just never discussed. The dry, rugged hills, the variety of rusts and browns and golds of the land... it's just breathtakingly beautiful.

Plus, with snow up in the mountains...

Well, the realization that I may have to leave after a year here finally hit me, and I realized I am NOT happy about it at all. I've come to love this city, especially its landscapes, and I feel very intensely about it.

For the first time, I truly realized that I'd made Las Vegas "home", emotionally.

And now I (probably) have to leave it...

Thanks, Kimba. It's not impossible to find a job here in what I do, just... really difficult. I'm finding my specialty in much more demand in other industries (yep, I'm in gaming but I'm a marketer by trade) in other cities right now.

I do have meetings with LV-based recruiters & a couple of consultants this week, so we'll see what pops up. I might get lucky and get to stay.

I was telling my hubby that I wish we could just keep our LV house forever (rent it out - which I'm going to have to do anyway) and become a two-city family eventually!

Btw: MI/LV is a good combo, IMHO - summer in MI, winter in LV, how could it get better than that?!?

Default I like vegas already

I'm gonna be moving to vegas from halfway across the world in a few months and I already love it there! Especially the weather, and the exotic desert scenes...and I'm sure I'm gonna love the people there, heck I already like the guys in this forum, I can't wait to meet the rest of the offline people!

Good luck with the interviews! How about hubby's job? Is it easily transferrable?

Yeah, the MI/LV combo would be great, but unfortunately, right now I am doing it backwards...winter in MI (YUCK!)for school purposes...summer in Vegas (that I do not mind!) One day I will get it right, though!!!

I grew up in the Midwest and the weather is what draws me most to Las Vegas. You can't walk around in a t-shirt in January in Iowa!

I also love the views of the mountains all around me. You can see all the mountains if you drive down St. Rose Parkway in Henderson. It's a view I never get tired of.

Being in a tourist destination is another big draw for me. I don't have to visit my friends because they come and visit me!

There are actually good + memories that I have on my many visits to Vegas. I've been going since 1991 and here are some of them:

Not as much smog and pollution as my current home(Los Angeles). Because of this, my allergies are less worse when I visit here.

Great buffets all over the place. This one speaks for itself. For a food lover like myself, this is one of the best places in the world.

Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino. I really like the way the hotel looks on the inside, especially the design and the Forum Shops. I have yet to try their buffet which I should.

The weather IMO has a bit more variety to it. L.A. is never cold enough for me. The wind in Vegas is good for driving the smog away.
