It costs money right? What if you don't have any recycling? What if you don't want to do it?

EVERYBODY has recyclable items. Any type of paper, tin can, plastic container, glass...

You don't pay "extra" for it, you pay your fee to Republic for trash removal and that includes your recyclable items (most neighborhoods it's every other week pickup.) At least for the City of Las Vegas that is. Perhaps it is different in locations classified as "Clark County" or in North Las Vegas, Henderson, etc.

And no, you don't have to do it, there are plenty of folks in my own development that have NEVER put anything out on recycle day.

If you receive mail ... wanted or not

Open a box

Bring anything home in a bag

Open a can

Open a bottle

You have things to recycle

I am a recycle queen. I should have prefaced the question with I am not in town every month. LOL
My question was more about stopping service until I had enough to recycle. I have a room for my recyclable stuff so no problem keeping it till I get a ton.
I have more to recycle than I have trash.

Oh, then that's no problem skisickie. Republic picks up automatically, they give you these three containers (they look like old fashioned milk crates) that you put your recyclables in.

Red is for plastics, blue is for glass, white is paper. I recycle a lot as well, I actually have two crates of each!

can you buy the crates rather than paying a rental fee each month

I don't know of anyone who had to pay additionally for the crates?

Unless things have changed and I'm not aware of it, Republic provides them free of any additional charges to your bill. About 6 months ago, I had to get a new blue one (mine went missing one day) and its replacement was dropped off on my front porch. No additional fee.

Thanks for the thread, skisickie. I think this may be able to help my recycling quandary as well. I live in an apartment complex that does not have recycling containers readily available, something I miss from a prior apartment and believe every apartment complex should have.

When I called to ask how I recycle with my new complex, they said I have to borrow a key from management to get access to a room... with inadequate space for the stuff I accumulate each week plus everyone else's stuff (the mail here by itself has an absurd quantity of junk!). This complex's methods do turn out to be an inconvenience, as there's never anyone in the office during hours I'm off work, and weekends I tend to stay with family across town or leave town.

I did recently purchase a car with plenty of storage space, so I'd really like to know if there's anywhere around here to drop off my recyclables myself? That would actually be more convenient with my circumstances, and I like having direct control of that anyway, given the lack of convenient means.

We started with the seperate crates here too. We now have comingled recycling. Everything goes into one 60 gallon bin that is picked up weekly. I only need a 32 gallon trash can now.

What fee was it that you thought you could get out of paying because you are a part-time resident? Isn't garbage like sewer service? The owner has to pay regardless of whether the residence is occupied?
