Here in Aliante, I've seen the kids start as early as 4:30p.m. Not quite dark yet, but getting there. Most were gone by around 8p.m, mainly the teens just finishing up.

Last year towards the end of the night I put out a bowl of candy when I saw a group of kids from the neighborhood coming-I was tired of opening the door. Well, I heard them emptying the bowl so I opened the door & they took off running leaving behind 2 kids maybe 3 years old? John Fredericks the weather guy one year left out a bowl of candy they took the candy & the bowl.

Every year we get less & less trick or treaters & less people passing out candy. This year we'll take our daughter to Town Square or something.

We will give her a little of the candy we buy and my wife will probably take the trick or treat candy to work (we aren't big candy eaters). We just want our daughter to have the trick or treat experience.

So I guess we can hit some houses first and then just pass out some candy when we get back. How long does trick or treating usually last and when does it start?

This is how wifey and I did it when our little guy was a really little guy. Now one of us takes him out and the other stays home and passes out the candy.

I have to admit that when I was younger and we came across a bowl of candy left outside, we took all the candy. Not only that, we took the bowl. My Mom used to be clueless and could not understand why every Halloween I came home with a new bowl to add to her dinnerware.

We would have taken the candy, taken the bowl, TP'd the house and moved the outhouse back 3 feet.

Ahhh yes the good old days...when trick meant something. You open the screen door a ways and perch the bowl on top. Then ring the doorbell and run.

Or you scout out a neighborhood where you know someone parks their VW bug and then you get 6 big guys and carry it between the two houses and sit it down horizontally. And a really funny one was to get a guy on each side of a surface street just as the sun is going down and just as a car approaches, each guy bends over and pretends he is picking up a chain that they act like they are stretching across the street. You try to rack up as many cars as you can that slam on their brakes and fishtail all over since there is just a brief window of fun time there before the sun totally sets. Yes....the good old days...@!!

Default More and more tame

I never saw it, but was told about the old burning bag full of crap trick.

Every age is getting tamer I think. My dad used to brag about putting buggies on roofs, and tipping outhouses.
Getting tamer? The thought of this scares me to death. Anyone else?

I once offered a choice: Money or candy. I'm talking 50 cents in lieu of candy. It was an experiment. The majority of those little kids: Candy, candy, candy!
