Las Vegas is addictive because of lots of reasons. Everything is so convenient here for one thing. Everyone has free parking. Businesses are required to have a certain number of parking spots so you're not looking for a parking meter six blocks away; you'll usually park right in front of wherever you're going for free. Retail stores, convenience stores, gas stations, drug stores, restaurants of all kinds, dentists, doctors' offices, hotel/casinos, churches, schools, you name it, there are more than you need and they are everywhere. Even though we complain about traffic because there are too many cars, most of our streets are wide with at least four and usually six lanes, plus a turning lane. And we have left turn signals at intersections, and right turns allowed after stop at red lights. You can make u-turns unless specifically prohibited by a sign. Our highway speed limit away from town is 75MPH even on two lane roads. Casinos never close for any reason, almost all (if not all) mini marts are 24/7, as are lots of grocery stores and drug stores. We have more Starbucks here per capita than any other city, plus there are other brands of designer coffee shops. Breakfast is served 24 hours a day in many restaurants off the strip, and in all coffee shops in hotel/casinos. The weather, while not perfect is better than anywhere east of I-25, and as good as or better than anywhere between I-25 and the middle of California. Nobody sticks their nose in your business and nobody pays any attention to what you do as long as you aren't hurting anyone. Something like 83% of the state is public land controlled mainly by the Bureau of Land Management, so there are hardly any fences anywhere outside of town to keep you out. There are just miles and miles of wide open spaces to roam in if you want. The town is getting better looking all the time, and the scenery outside of town is spectacular. You can snow ski and water ski in the same day. You can drive up to Mt. Charleston with your pickup truck, load it with snow, and hurry back to town before it melts even when it is 90 degrees in town. You can hike up a nearly 12,000 foot mountain peak that is just minutes away from town, or join world class rock climbers on the cliffs of Red Rock Canyon. Or you can see 900 year old Indian petroglyphs, petrified logs, and other fantastic artifacts at The Valley of Fire, also minutes away. We have the largest man-made lake in the western hemisphere just 30 miles away, created by one of the seven engineering wonders of the world, Hoover Dam. You can see the world's best entertainers every night of the week at dozens of locations, or you might just as easily see them standing in line with you at Albertson's or eating at the next table in a restaurant. Or a big name star might just live next door to you. There are huge production shows like you've probably never seen before all over town. You can hike, hunt, fish, bike, run, play, dance, drink, swim, or just chill at a zillion locations nearby. If you just bought a drink, or the casino gave you a free one, and everyone wants to leave and go to another joint, no problem. Don't waste it or gulp it down, you can take it with you even if you're walking down the street. We don't have a problem with drinking in public. Is that supposed to corrupt other people or something? We're not that anal. We have world class shopping at several malls on and off the Strip. We have an abundance of car dealers and I'd bet we have more Hummers running around here than anywhere in the country. I doubt you'd see as many limos anywhere as you do here. You can get married 24/7 with little effort (although the dee-vorce takes 6 weeks). I could go on and on. In other words, Las Vegas is the last bastion of freedom in this country and it has so much to offer people get spoiled very fast and therefore addicted.
Dern you Buzz, you keep making these great posts and I can't give you more reps

Spot on post, this is what the naysayers never understand about Vegas. They only think Vegas is about gambling, prostitution, drug use, liquor, etc., and what they don't get is that the city offers so much more outside the strip.

Now is it perfect? Far from it; however, it has it's positives and negatives just like any other city in the U.S. As I have always said, there is no utopia anywhere in the country. Everyone has to have an open mind whenever looking at a new city to put down roots which is what we did coming out here 4 years prior to moving out here so we knew what we getting into, and we have absolutely no regrets. (I just wish that they would get better news and weather people)

ACTUALLY Buzz.....as I understand it....DEE-vorce takes 6 weeks IF you were not married here and do not live here....If you have already established residency or if you were married here it takes as little time as is necessary to type the papers and get em signed and filed.

My 2nd xwifewhatzername filed on Dec 23 and it was final on Dec 31 because I was willing and signed with no hassles.

My first xwife whatzername came to town from DEEtroit on a wednseday. I signed on Thur and it was final on Friday.

Living in Las Vegas is just like where you are living right now. You get up, you go to work, you pay your bills, and you drive by the most beautiful structures anywhere.

You will have greater access to entertainment, great food, and you will know where to go to get the best deals. You see them on local commerciales, you hear of them from your friends and workmates.

Living here is not the same as touring here. You are here permanently, and have access to everything you will need discipline for.

I had to go to court with a friend to swear that I had seen him everyday for six weeks and he was a long time resident. It didn't happen overnight, but his ex lived out of town.

It's been so long I forget about mine, but I seem to remember a waiting period. As in everything with me there's a story with that. We planned it so that my wife would go to court (W/O me) on Jan. 2nd right after she put her mother on a plane for home. We didn't want her to know until it was a done deal. My late ole buddy Forest Duke had asked me when it would be official so he could announce in his RJ entertainment column that I was an eligible bachelor. I told him not to do it until after Jan 2nd. Naturally he put it in on Jan 2nd, and naturally my ex MIL bought a paper in the airport to read on the plane. Nasty phone calls were exchanged as soon as she got off the plane in Pittsburgh.

Atsok, my reward is pi**ing off a**holes who don't live here, or if they ever did, they didn't bother to learn anything.
