Never really a problem to fill the hotels. But the lower room rates has hurt the casinos more than the drop in gambling, which is also down a fair amount.

Even if the economy turns, this isn't likely to change soon as CityCenter and Fountainbleu will offset any increase in demand, and possibly then some. Then again, that capacity might get absorbed quicker than expected. But I don't look for the casinos to start doing well again until at least early 2011. Although I think there could be stabilization as early as this fall when business will start picking up again if the Obamaconomy really is gathering steam.

No that is not what I am saying.

What I am saying is my 1 hour of BJ $5-30 spread is getting me free room + slot play offers downtown.

My $20 in a slot machine after a poker win in a Bellagio slot is getting me discounts beyond what Bellagio used to offer me just to play poker.

Etc.

And yes there are poker comps. The most generous are $2 an hour at Binions and IP. Most other places are $1 an hour. Even Wynn.

An interesting twist is that a couple months ago, Harrahs(and Harrahs casino only, not their other properties) started offering tier points for poker players. I know one guy that is already platinum soley on poker play.

Another interesting thing....a friend stayed at Palazzo about a year ago. He got $50 slot play with the room. He played that and nothing else. Not the entire weekend. At the begining of March Palazzo sent him a free room including weekends. Re usable through April. He has gone 3 times and has not gambled a dime, though he has spent in the restaurants and bars and stuff. I got bupkis despite burning through a couple $20's. Eh.

Its 4hrs at 25 a hand!

And, I would bet, another 40mil passengers fly over LV at 35,000 feet------fact is, visitor volume is down--revenue is down---more importantly, this, along with room growth will absolutely result in a large number of the LV work force into part-time jobs with no benefits.

For March, Fremont Hotel Casino sent me multiple offers for free weekday rooms and one weekend along with $25 slot play.

For April they sent me the same but weekdays only.

For May they sent me 4 free days including weekends. And $50 free slotplay.

Plaza and Orleans have also sent me free rooms. Weekdays and weekends.

These are mail and email offers, not anything where I go to the host after my trip and the host comps me. I never do that. This stuff is all offered before my trip. I've received enough offers that I do not use all of them.

And if you think I'm making up the amount I play, factor this in: I play poker an average of 7-8 hours a day while I am there. So there is really not much time for BJ and craps.

I have friends from Colorado that get three or four nights a year for free at Caesars, and other joints, and all they do is play slots. They don't even have a lot of money, and they don't just play at the one hotel..

I'm not disputing that, but the airport traffic number wasn't "bogus".

I suppose it's debateable, but it's unlikely that the airport, at present, could service the added hotel capacity. We go back to 2007 visitation and McCarran is operating pretty close to full capacity. We will bounce back to those levels pretty quickly when the economy eventually turns. The casinos, and city tax coffers, will suffer if the airport can't keep up with the increased number of travelers.

Expanding the airport is one stimulus project that will actually pay dividends.

Hmmmm, interesting thread about The Future of Las Vegas Tourism.. I am wondering if this is true that I read an article one day from Las Vegas newspaper about future airport. Will the new airport be at northeast section of Las Vegas near Speedway in 2014? I am not quite sure and anyone knows about this? Thanks for your time reading this.

South of Las Vegas..around little town called Jean.

Nellis is next to the speedway. You don't build civilian airports next to military ones unless you are able to share it...which would not work at Nellis.

There are definitely deals to be had in vegas right now. I am on my way to the Venetian sunday for $129 a night for 4 nights. Last year when I went it was $200 wkday. I have also received all types of offers for free rooms at several hotels. I even got one for $99 weekday for Wynn and Bellagio.
