Hello, I'll try to make this short and to the point. My wife and I live in the North East part of the country with our three young children. All family is here except for my brother who lives in Vegas...We have visted there atleast a dozen times and really love it..We seriously considered moving there but understand the drawbacks and feel it's better to make our home base here in PA. The thing is we feel we want to make Vegas a part of our life somehow? We know the number one thing we HATE here is the loong winters and humid summers. We thought about maybe investing in a condo and having extended stays for 2 weeks or so in the winter months. We also have heard of some places to rent condos from 1 month to 6 months depending...We always have the option of staying with my bro, but we wanted to "invest" in the area as we hope to travel there frequently and even more so as a kids get older and begin their own lives. We could see become snow birds to the area in our later years. Any advise would be helpful..also if anyone can recommend condo area for short to long term stays. Thanks.

Rentals of a couple of weeks are kind of tough because technically it is illegal to rent out a place for less than 30 days unless it has a commercial lodging permit (as with everything in Vegas, government protects the money interests). That being said I am sure it happens, but it certainly cuts down on the supply. Alternatively the timeshare places surely have lots of willing renters and you could always turn to the weekly rentals at the short-term apartments, although most of them are a bit shady in terms of who lives there or where they are located. Those aren't investments, but the market now is tough to get what exactly you are looking for. Either you buy the place and use it yourself or you rent it out full time.

Consider Signature. As an owner, you can stay there whenever you want for any length of time. Otherwise, you can rent it out through MGM or through an independent service. We go down for long weekends, however we know others that stay for a month or two.
