A cool place to eat is at the restaurant at the top of the Stratosphere. It rotates so by the time you finish your meal you will have went in a circle and will have seen the whole valley. Go during the day for lunch and the prices are reasonable. Great views!

I'lll give you a few. For out and out gluttony with the Vegas style there is only one place. Michael's in Bills. There is no place else with the level of food and service. I don't even think they bother to advertise much. Take money. Expensive by strip standards. Easily go $300 for dinner for two. Stick to regular stuff...Steak and lobster and such. They do it as well as anyone and serve it better.

I also agree with RedWingFan that the Stratosphere is very good. Not a gourmet place but good food well served at high prices. Took my mother there for her 80th...they did a great job.

Try Sahara just west of the strip. Good sea food bar in the Palace Station. Up a couple of blocks adequate Korean at Shilla. Little further west Montsanto for pretty good Italian with a good imprted food deli. Keep going and you find Akasaka...probably the best neighborhood sushi in town. (If money is no object...Nobu in the Hard Rock) Continue to Decatur and Cafe Nicole...sort of a frenchish institution. Around the corner is a reasonable Middle eastern joint...Marakesh? I have forgotten but pretty good.

Drop a mile south to Charleston and continue out and you find the Summerlin Restaurant row. Carabbas, Flemings, Roys, Hannah, PF Chang, Claim Jumper and three or four more.

Mexican best in town we find is Via Zapata on Craig just east of 15. A Nellis AFB hangout. Come watch the turbine jocks lunch. Another nice one is The Burrito Inn at Del Webb and Rampart. Mediocre at best service...always great food.

For a hamburger...Steiners. Have some other good things like lamb chop appetizers. VP bars but really good Hamburgers.

Breakfast either Cracked Egg or either Original Pancake House.

A different place in the NW...Marche Baccus in Desert Shores. Go mid afternoon and have the platter and a little wine..

Seafood in the Northwest ....Shucks...another best buy. The clambake is to die for. All the crab and clams you care to eat with potatoes and corn..Properly cooked. A gem.

Anyway that is more than you should get without a consulting fee...

They are also opening a Michael's in the South Point, I wonder if they'll close the one in Bill's/Barbary Coast after this Michael's opens. Montesanos is very good. I don't think there are many Mexican places in Summerlin. But there is a Viva El Taco at Fort Apache and Flamingo, which is a lot like a Robertos.

One of my very favorite places to eat there is Med. Cafe. They have two locations, one right near UNLV on Maryland and one over near Summerlin area. I always went to the one near UNLV. Awesome falafel! Great hummus... it's a wonderful restaurant.

When it comes to Italian, my favorite has always been String's.

I also love the Cheesecake Factory and PF Chang's.

RedWingsFan is right, Mediterraenean Cafe is awesome, we always take out-of-towners there. The food is always good each time we go. We also go to the one on Maryland.

First of all, lets get this straightened out...there is NO South Las Vegas Blvd, nor is there a North LV Blvd. There is only Las Vegas Blvd North and Las Vegas Blvd South. The reason, of course, is to prevent confusion. There are two cities, LV and NLV; so there has long been a Las Vegas Boulevard that runs through both cities, but there has never been a North Las Vegas Blvd in either city.

Now, as for food; are you asking where to eat at the south end of the Strip, or throughout Las Vegas in general? I don't know a lot of places in your zip code area, except for the Bootlegger. It is owned by former Lt. Governor, Loraine Hunt, an entertainer whose family came from, I believe, New Yawk. When it was on Maryland Parkway, I ate there several times, and the food was excellent. http://www.bootleggerlasvegas.com/

However, there are better Italian restaurants in town. Grape Street, on West Lake Mead and Buffalo is my personal favorite and reminds me of my one and only trip to New York, and the best meal ever at the famous Elaines. But, like I said before, I never met a meal I didn't like. There are two (did someone say three?) Motesanos. The family that owns them are so New York it ain't funny. The food is great, and they also have pretty nice delis along with the restaurants. Or do they have restaurants along with the delis? Of course, they have pizza.

There are hundreds, maybe thousands, of good restaurants in Las Vegas, and just as many bad ones. It's a matter of personal preference. Proof of that is in the previous posts. Some of those, like Robertos, I wouldn't be caught dead in. You'll just have to experiment. BTW: Robertos gets whacked by the health department all the time. They are filthy and the food ain't real Mexican food. Ed Herbst, the original "Terrible" Herbst, was a friend of mine, but I wouldn't eat at his kids' casino. In fact, Ed might not either, as he told me once how bitter he was about his attempt to own a casino at Jackpot, NV, and he lost his shirt to thieving employees.

For the person who asked about Mexican food in Summerlin, there is a very good Mexican place called El Burrito, which is one of the oldest in Las Vegas. It's on the corner of Del Webb Blvd and Rampart in a shopping center. It was origianlly in a little dive on East Fremont St. Mexican food is something I am knowledgeable about having lived on the border in Laredo, Texas, where there is nothing to do but eat the world's best Mexican food, and in New Mexico where food is an art form. The best Mexican food in town if they haven't ruined it by Las Vegasizing it, is Garduñios. You'll find one in the Palms, and in both Fiestas. It's an Albuquerque original brought in from NM by George Maloof when he built the first Fiesta. The Maloofs come from Albuquerque too, and there are no bad restaurants in Albuquerque or Santa Fe. Try the carne advado and you'll brag about me to your friends.

Here are three more very good Mexican restaurants. Before the Hispanic population surge which is now about 25%, we didn't have no stinkin' Mexican restaurants in Las Vegas...none to speak of that is. Now we have a lot of them. If you go to either of the Michoacans, ask for the guacamole made fresh at the table...and don't call it gwok a molee...it's waak a mol lay.

Las Hamacas (The hammocks)
Cuisine: Mexican
8665 W Flamingo Rd
Las Vegas, NV 89147
702-227-9191
Las Hamacas had an excellent fish dinner too but I don't recall the name of the dish.

Bonito Michoacan
Cuisine: Mexican
3715 S Decatur
Las Vegas, NV 89103
702-257-6810

Lindo Michoacan
Cuisine: Mexican
2655 E Desert Inn Rd
Las Vegas, NV 89121
702-735-6828

Don't forget, with Mexican food you need a drink that will put the fire out like Pepsi, or iced tea; but beer works best, and Mexican beers are some of the world's best.
