Not to be ungrateful, but when did the LA Times start writing friendly stories about Las Vegas? They used to spend a lot of energy dissing us. Now it seems they have seen that we're not so bad after all. Here is a link to several good news stories about Las Vegas. Newbies and old timers alike should read these articles. You might learn, for a change, that there are many positive things going on here. The article by Karen Mack, The Big Secret, is interesting for the history of how corporations came to be casino operators. Even though I suspect it's possible it just might be a little self serving, it will enlighten you on one of the reasons why the mob left town. It may have been due to editing, but she left out the major role Howard Hughes played in changing the laws concerning casino ownership by corporations. She also said we locals didn't notice when it happened. We not only noticed, we all complained about the overnight higher prices, and loss of freebies, not to mention the decline in service. Anywho, good reading in several of these articles.

Thanks for posting the article, Buzz. It was interesting. I had always thought that the Mob left town because they couldn't get decent NY style pizzas.

I think that was part of it. Also, Sinatra died. Thanks for the reps y'all.

Sinatra got periodic shipments of bread from his hometown of Hoboken. The shipments were monthly, IIRC.
