So we've decided to move from Boston to LV. It's been several years in the making. I know of the concerns with crime, employment, etc. The cost of living in certainly far lower than what I am paying in MA so that is not an issue. I have some questions that I can't find answers to on here.

I'd like to do something like be a casino dealer. I know it's hard to find a good job but I'm only looking for PT and it doesn't have to be in a large casino, either. I come from a very successful management and outside sales background and am just looking to take some time off with this move and do something more mindless....

Does anyone know what dealer schools are more favorable than others? How to find out these things?

Also, are there any job areas where there is hiring going on in the area?

Thanks for the help.

Dealers are mainly being laid off and reduced hours rite now, i'm sure before they hire new dealers, they have to give more hours or bring back the old ones...

Small world... I live in Boston and am moving to Vegas too, around August.

How do you plan on getting there? My wife and I are going to have a road trip and drive down, instead of taking a flight. I think that packing a jeep with clothes, computer stuff, kitchen stuff, etc would be cheaper than having it all shipped down, and/or selling our stuff and buying all new things.

I totally agree that the cost of living is dramatically different. Almost every place I've seen with the same square footage is half the price than what I'm paying now.

You say your only looking for part time work, do you have another source of income? I'm self employed, so I'm just taking my job with me, but I've also been eyeing some part time options when I get there (2-3 days a week). From what I've heard, unemployment is up and jobs are tougher to come by these days...

My husband (just married in Jan...in Vegas!) is a poker player. He's got some savings as a pot to get started. So it's my turn to take some time off. I know I'll get bored so I figured something PT would be fitting.

They always say it's hard to find a job...Check out Craigslist. There's tons of jobs up for grabs. You just have to be at the top of the list. I was in outside sales (pretty successful at it!) and am in retail now. With all of the "geniuses" I've interviewed and worked with in the past....it's no wonder people have a hard time finding a job. Yes, the market may be tough. But that just means those people with the experience and the right skill set rise to the top. The job I have now I just was recruited for in Sept. I didn't even have a second interview or even have an application filled out for that matter before they made me an offer. You need to know how to sell yourself and most people don't.

We're hoping on moving over the 4-8 weeks. The sooner the better. I've calculated driving vs. flying and we are definitely flying. To move the 2 of us, the dog and cat, my car, and our stuff, we're still only looking at $5k. That beats the hassle of driving any day!
