because the rec pools arent as nice, don't have snack bars, don't provide towels, don't have lazy rivers, etc

and its more convenient for me to go to a strip pool then to go to a rec center, the closest rec center to me is farther than going to the Strip

Stay in a Strip hotel seems the obvious answer?

The Luxor checked for my room key June of last year. If you're trying to get a tan it's the pool to go to. Between the sun and the sun's reflection off the pyramid, you get roasted.

/found out the hard way

Encore requires a card key and does NOT require a swipe.

The most comprehensive info on pools I've seen is at Las Vegas Advisor. You can search by criteria, such as poolside gaming, or open to the public. Lots of photos, as well. Here is the list of open to the public pools:

Exclusive LVA Hotel Pool Reviews & Parties | The Best Las Vegas Swimming Pools

The "catch" is, there is a fee for non-hotel guests. $20 seems the going rate, although it appears that may be last year's pricing. Wouldn't be surprised if it goes up a bit.

I've heard that any pool offering poolside gambling is required to be open to the public. Gaming Commission regs, I think? So, you could probably wander in, play a few hands of BJ, then mosey over to the pool. Would depend on the pool, and how closely they watch for that. Personally, I'd rather pay the fee. Not much different than paying to get into a water park.

This thread is 2 years old overall but I thought ok nobody here has a clue, and these people live in Las Vegas? This thread isn't 5 years old so you all should know better, haha, I mean I come to this forum so the locals can tell me things I don't know, not so I can tell the locals obvious things they should know

YES, you absolutely CAN go to ANY hotel pool at a major hotel regardless of whether you stay there or not! In fact, since 2006, this has been very popular and it's called "Daylife," which is a Vegas-coined term starting with some of the bigger ones like Rehab. Usually these are not just normal pools, so I'm referring to the big pools here, which are pool clubs, and they often have bars, self-contained kitchens that just service the pool area, one even has its own entrance you can drive right up to and not walk through the hotel or casino. One has cabanas you can rent for the day that have flat screens and an XBox 360. They are some of the best parties around at the right time of the year, like a crazy spring break scene. Most are open during the warmer months and mostly until sunset or maybe 6 or 7 p.m.

Most of them are free for hotel guests, many of them are free for girls, and most of them charge guys somewhere around $20 even up to $40. Locals can get away with having a lot of fun and not paying a lot of money, though. Just look into it. I found a local's guide to Vegas that showed most of the hotel pools are FREE to locals on Mondays and often Tuesdays, another major one is free to locals on Thursdays, and one more was free to locals Saturdays and Sundays, so you can literally find a great pool party every day of the week that is totally free if you're a local, but you have to know which ones those are. There are also deals like some will be $20 for guys but $10 for locals.

It's sort of like Sapphire, the strip club, it's $30 for tourists but locals get in free. Basically a Nevada ID can be worth its weight in gold on the Strip if you know how to use it. Like anything it's about knowing as much as possible, and knowing as many people as you can.

I can tell you when I move to Vegas I sure won't be paying for any night clubs. I'm happy to pay the ridiculous drink fees, that's fine, I'm happy to spring for bottle service every once in a while if I'm in a partying mood. I am not going to pay $20 or $30 or whatever just to walk into a club, though. That's the whole point of living in Las Vegas, you get to know the VIP hosts, the bouncers, and hopefully at a good condo on the Strip, your concierge is going to be able to get you on the guest list no problem and you'll walk right in. Locals shouldn't have to pay for that kind of crap, let the tourists pay for our taxes and our entertainment!

Yes I was there a few years ago and it was very hot with the reflection off of the pyramids glass and the heat from the concrete, but....I think the Vdara has it beat now with its "Death Ray"
