Im a recent college grad with a BBA in Finance and Real Estate. My job search has just started (great timing, I know) and Im going to be in Vegas in about a month. I literally have zero contacts in the area, and while Im in town I would like to at least get my foot in the door and meet some people.

It has been said on this board several times that Job Fairs can work well for some. With your degrees in hand, I think you may fit into that group. Do searches for job fairs in the fields and job descriptions for your intersts. Headhunters would also be good searches for you. They usually have something right away or just string you along. If they are stringing you along, you will know quickly. If they have something, make sure its at no cost to you.

You never know, it's worth a shot to fill out as many online applications as you can, though I will say that being a "tourist" so to speak, might hurt your chances somewhat.
But hey, it don't cost you anything to fill out online applications.

Unemployment is definately up here and all over the country...but not so bad here in LV compared to what some other places around the country are facing.

Agree 10% is a high unemployment. I have to laugh alittle though as someone that makes thier 3rd post says an ENTIRE CITY is underwater. Have some savings with you, go all over the place and put in applications. Good luck on your search and let us know how it goes.

I lost my job in vegas right before thanksgiving of 2008. I saw it coming so I began to apply all over town at the end of September. I applied to about 90 places, everywhere for sales jobs,cashiers, cook jobs,driver jobs,janitior,Mc Donalds,Wendys,In and Out, Smith's,Terribles,anything just to stay there and pay the rent. I'm now back in Ny and still have my 702 phone and havent got 1 call. It's bad out there, it's not too much better here but its really bad there. I'm 40 years old and a college grad and I cant get a job at McDonalds its pretty bad!
