I heard that with the wind chill factor the temperature at Times Square was 0 degrees. Can you imagine what the port-a-potties would have been like? Say, does anyone here happen to know what the freezing point of urine is?

No pi$$ popsicles? Aww, that's just not New York! Odds are that by the end of the night they were covered with graffiti, various body fluids, and filled with used condoms and syringes.

this was the busiest year we have ever had on Fremont St.....I can only assume that since they had 30,000 bands and they ran out, that there were CLOSE to 30,000 people....havent got the final figures yet.....I do know that our bar had their best year ever.....

Default Fremont was not bad, but not terribly thrilling

I just got back from the Vegas strip and I have to say that I was really disappointed with the festivities. This is my first year living in Vegas and I expected so much more.

There were also these horrible religious zealots yelling on megaphones and holding homophobic picket signs which I felt were totally inappropriate for a new years celebration.

What a bust! Did anyone else have a better time this evening?

We parked at Dino's and walked up to FSE, although we could have taken the bus as lots seemed to be running. Got there a little after 10 pm and wandered around. Nothing too crazy going on.... there were a couple of cover bands playing (Queen and "Aeromyth"). They had fake fireworks on the ceiling and some small stuff going off, but nothing big since it's a closed-in area. Meh. It wasn't all that great, but I got a kick out of seeing all the people in crazy pimp hats.

There was some guy holding up a picket sign that said something about not betraying Jesus by having sex. People didn't seem to like that too much.

P.S. I think that the folks running the event did a great job of organizing - keeping people in the right lines (locals vs. nonlocals) and getting people their wristbands. We didn't have to wait long at all to get in. I would probably go there again, just because for such a large event it went really smoothly. Would probably try and go with a bigger group though, just because that would be more fun.

At least the preacher didn't have a megaphone, Doc. I read on the RJ's board that there was a group of them on the Strip with megaphones and signs. Don't these people have anything better to do? Religion is fine, as long as it's taken in moderation.
