Have you or have you seen people use jon boats in lake mead? Would it be safe enough to use one? Where are the largemouth bass around?

have seen them used over on the AZ side to fish some of the bays (bonnelli bay area). dunno about the largemouth as people seemed to be going for stripers. check w/ the park service...they'll know where the bass are.

safe enough really depends on you. the lake can really whip up sometimes, but i think if you stay in the bays on the lee side you should be fine (again...very much depends on you)

I don't know that you'd want to get out into deep water very far from shore in a jon boat, but you could use them to fish the coves or to hunt ducks and geese. I'd swear I've rented them for duck hunting at Overton Landing in the past. At least I think we used some kind of flat bottom boats to get around the quick sand where the Virgin and the Muddy rivers empty into the lake. It was a long time ago. But the waves can get pretty big if the wind kicks up so I'd stay in the coves. Nevada isn't much of a large mouth bass state but they do stock them in various waters. Lake Mead is probably as good a place as any for them. You'll mostly find stripped bass out there though. But here is an article about NDOW removing some from one pond and releasing them in Tule Pond which is at Floyd Lamb Park on the northern edge of Las Vegas.

We're used to traveling long distances here, and a lot of Las Vegans go up to a place called Sunnyside. There is great trout fishing there, but I know the last time I was there one of the reservoirs had bass.
