My family (myself, husband, two girls ages 6 and 7) have secured an apartment in the 89128 area code. How is this area? My daughters will be attending Katz elementary. It seems like a good area, but is there anything I should be concerned about? We're moving from PA to Las Vegas the end of July. I'm really excited, but kind of nervous, since we only have one family member out there.

I know I'm going to miss the Red Rabbit, and Hershey Park as well. Are there any smaller theme parks especially for children 12 and under? When are the festivals/local fairs in Las Vegas? Any pumpkin patch/ farms for children to visit? This forum has been a huge help for us, so thanks for all of your help.

Turkey,

I've subbed at Katz elementary. The kids and the staff seemed really nice so you should really have no problems. Are you sure you are zoned for Katz or the sister school right next door, McMillan? The schools are right next to the 95 right off of Lake Mead. There is an In-n-Out burger joint right there that you definitely have to try!!

As for amusement parks, your kids since they are young will definitely enjoy the Adventuredome, an indoor park inside Circus Circus. My son keeps begging to go back!! With an entertainment coupon, it is really affordable. Myself and 3 boys only cost me $50 with the buy one wristband get one free offer.
California is only 4-5 hours away and they have Disneyland, Universal Studios, Knottsberry Farm, Lego Land, San Diego Zoo and Sea World.

There are plenty of family activities to do especially around the holiday season.
I have heard there are places to pick fruit, but I have not heard of any pumpkin patches, but I could be wrong. Honestly when we did that back in Ohio, it was always so muddy and messy. My 1st grader loved visiting Anderson Dairy here where they make the ice cream. Some of the casinos on the strip have aquariums and animals for the kids to see. I'm thinking of taking the boys to the Secret Garden at the Mirage because they love tigers so much. I think I read there are baby tigers there now.

Thanks a bunch! I've also heard that the MGM has a rainforest cafe inside. We have one of those cards that saves you like ten percent. I'm glad to hear a good report about Katz, and yes they will be attending Katz and not McMillan. We're within walking distance, so for the first time I'll get to walk my daughters to school, instead of to the bus stop.

Katz is a pretty good school.

The high school isn't the best, though (it's not the worst in the valley, but there are definitely better).

Comeon Radraja...The will work that out before the kids are of high school age. No random attacks on Cimmaron Memorial.

Ehh..I'm just really not fond of Cimarron. There plenty of good kids there, don't get me wrong, but there are also far too many thugs-in-training for my comfort. Which is ironic, seeing as most of the kids come from perfectly fine homes.

But Katz is a good choice. I never said that it isn't a good location for now.

You volunteered what is actually a non sequitur. The observation may well be true...but it was not to the subject of the thread.

Perhaps it wasn't a directly asked question, but I think it falls under the category of "info about 89128". However, I apologize if the OP finds the input unwelcome.

But like I said, I have nothing else at all against the area. I worked in there for awhile.
