Hello all I'm finally here. I've been looking for a place and Olecapt has been SOOO helpful!! Thanks so much!!!

Now I have another question. I went to see Shelter Cove on Decator and I'm trying to find out about the schools in that area. My daughter will be going to the 5th grade. I like the area (from what I see) plus they are having GREAT move in specials.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

By searching the zoning page (http://ccsd.net/schools/contactInfoDetail.php?locCode=462 - broken link)at ccsd.net, I found that your child's elementary school would be Wynn, which ranks in the bottom 20% in test scores, based on OleCapt's site. This should not be alarming, however, since inner city schools have a larger number of non-English speaking and transient students.

I think the Sahara/Decatur area is a good place to start for someone who doesn't know much about the city since almost everything is within a mile or two of this intersection. You have a Von's, Trader Joe's, Wal-Mart, Lowe's, tons of good restaurants (Samosa Factory = yummy!) all along Decatur between Sahara and Charleston. Once you get a better feel for where you'll be working, which side of town you prefer, etc., you can move into another area, just in time for your daughter to start Junior High.

Good Luck!

Thanks so much for the information. If I don't find anything else I like I think I'm going to take it. My daughter is a VERY bright girl!!! I'm NOT just saying that because I'm her mom!! lol She has always performed well in school and she is consistently at the top of her class and always on the honor roll. I have no doubt that she will do well. In addition she has a mom who "doesn't play" when it comes to school. I am the mom who is at EVERY parent teacher conference, volunteers in the classroom as much as possible, checks all homework AND I make sure I speak with the teacher regarding my child on a regular basis.

Well I just looked up the school and... it's a 12month school. I don't think I will be taking that one I want my daughter to be in a 9month school.
