Stewart Pines III Apartments - 1351 Stewart Ave

Are any of these apartments in a decent area? i know they are all within a close distance to the campus which is what i want, but me being from Kansas I dont really know the area these apts are in. Any input would be great. Thanks

Avoid all of the areas you just mentioned. The area around DI/Twain & Maryland Pkwy are drug and gang ridden! The one on Stewart is another bad area.

south. 89123, 89120, 89014...there are better further south but they get more expensive and I presume you are bottom fishing.

You got it. To the north is not impossible but is really treacherous. Those include some of the worst neighborhoods in Las Vegas. South is not great either. But a lot better than the near north.

Do you have a car?

If so, don't be afraid to look further away from campus.

Yeah.. You are not going to want to live by the University. If I were you, I would look east of the campus.. If you are looking by area, check out East Las Vegas and Southeast Las Vegas.

I work in the mall by UNLV and it's definitely not the safest area.. I'm kind of afraid to work there, much less live there. Unless you are a crackhead from Kansas, they will eat you alive! I would never EVER consider living in ANY of those apartments. EVER!

EVER!

You guys are being way too overdramatic. There are plenty of students who live by the university and enjoy the convenience, and they don't fear for their lives.
The reality is that people need places to live that they can afford. When you tell someone that the only way they can live safe is to spend more than they have, you're not giving them advice that they can use.

DJ56, are you going to have a car? If not, you should definitely stay close to the university. The bus system isn't the best in Las Vegas. If you have a car, and the money to pay an extra couple hundred bucks a month, move toward the SE - 89123 89120. If you can't afford that, don't worry, tons of students live close to the university and it's a vibrant place to live, with restaurants and bars all within walking distance. It's more urban, but it's not so scary as these posters make it out to be.

Of the places you mentioned, the best choice would be the one on E. Harmon or the Living Desert. These are literally a stone's throw from the university.
The apartments on Twain are in a little more dangerous area- I advise against living directly north of UNLV. The one on Stewart is too far away. Pick a place east of Maryland Parkway somewhere between Flamingo and Hacienda. You don't need to rent it out in advance. There will be plenty to choose from when you come out. One really hidden gem is the University Crest condos across from UNLV. These are privately owned but you can find them for rent. Check craigslist and search University Crest.
