What's the best and most affordable house cleaning/carpet cleaning service? Carpet covers about 1500 sq feet of the house. We're moving in and there's no furniture. Thanks!

Why not rent a carpet cleaning machine and do it yourself?

My buddy owns a carpet and upholstery cleaning company, but he is not cheap. That being said, he does very good work and is worth every penny.

I have always sworn by Chem Dry, but we just had Stanley Steamer clean an expensive area rug for us that my wife had spilled a glass of grape juice on. They even said they didn't think they could get it out but she insisted on letting them try. It came back looking like new.

Lowes, Target, Linens and Things, Kohls and some other stores all have the carpet shampooers on sale this week along with other incentives like gift cards. You can get a new carpet shampooer for about $129 after incentives. Unless you don't like to do it yourself, then there are hundreds of places willing to come out and do it for you for a good fee.

I was at the Home show last weekend, and I spun the wheel for a discount for carpet cleaning. It gave me $35 off. I am not going to use it, so if the OP wants it, instead of paying $119, you get it for $84. expires 5/31/08. The $84 will clean up to 3 rooms, 250 sf each.
You'd have to tell them you were at the show, even if you weren't.
The company name is:
Best clean carpet and upholstery cleaning.

I agree with Pink here. After using several, Stanley Steamer being the best, we finally bought our own and do it ourselves.

I really feel Stanley is the best but once you use them they spam you and bombard you with a dozen phone calls per month, many coming during dinner or after 8PM. And dont ever give them your email like I made the mistake of doing. If I told you how many emails I got from them before I blocked the mail you would say I was exaggerating.

Thanks for the info and thanks pinkstring for offering that discount

I think i've decided to rent one out and do it myself. If the prices to rent one is about the same as hiring out a company i might just hire someone. I've never considered buying my own steam cleaner . . . . i'll check it out! Thanks again!

Holy crap, rented my own steam cleaner from Lowes for $45, what a waste! That was a bad idea . . . so I decided to go with a company my Realtor refered me to. I'll report how well they did tomorrow

Most of the cleaners you rent or buy are not nearly as good as the truck-mounted professional models. The truck mounted units have more powerful suction and provide a much more thorough cleaning. They won't leave behind nearly as much moisture or residue as a rental cleaner.

ChemDry used to not be truck mounted, they just sprayed a solution and used an orbital buffer. Now they also offer truck mounted cleaning for an additional premium.
