It is not true that you can't get into a nice school in your first year. It's all about timing and how well you interview. You are going to need to get licensed in NV anyway, which might require a semester or so of student teaching i.e. indentured servitude. Your best bet would be to move to an outlying area, such as the NW or Henderson, because student teaching assignments are based on where you live. If you can wow the principal of your school, then you have a leg up on any potential job openings in that school. Check the district's web site for licensure requirements.

CCSD is an aged, decrepidly ill, government dinosaur. There are weapons incidents at the "good" schools. Look at the area where the 13yo shot the 12yo in the face in a gang related shooting. That was in the Torrey Pines & Lake Meade area. That is NW; it's not one of the true war zones. But that tells you what goes on in the "decent areas." How do you think it wopuld be in one of the areas (East & NE) where they are paying hazard pay?
