How is the area that is boxed in by Lake Mead Blvd on the south, N Torrey Pines on the East, Smoke Ranch to the north, and N Rainbow on the West?

What do you call this area?

Low middle income neighborhood. Not terribly dangerous but pay attention.

Our car got stolen out of our driveway and that is where it ended up...with $7,000 worth of damage.

We do not feel danger there but we would be cautious.

Most locals would call it east of Best Buy.

$7K as in worth of parts stripped from it, or due to a collision?

My first place was over there. My neighbor was robbed at gunpoint about 5 minutes before I came home from work. Also, someone unsuccessfully tried to steal my husband's car. I lived in a townhouse that had no gate, next to apartments.

Removed air bags. Scratched paint. Damaged seats getting at stuff. Basically ended up with new seats, airbags and a total paint job. Actually a pretty good outcome for us. The thing looks brand new and works like a charm. May well go past 200K miles.

And the back of one of the condos is where our car was recovered.

Ugh that sucks, sorry that happened to you.

Actually now that I think about it, I have other scary stories from living there. Oh well I was young.

Has the area improved since then? I not want to get robbed at gunpoint personally.

The robbed at gun point is a rather rare event. You might wat to look at the LVMPD crime map...
https://www.crimemapping.com/map/nv/lasvegas

Not as good as Summerlin but not nearly as bad as much of the central city.
