Exactly. I think those that think people are generally nice are generally nice themselves.

You've been here three years longer than me. Do you think the overall personality of the town has changed from the 60's? I do, but don't know if it's because of the population boom or just the times. Actually, I kind of thought it changed in the 70s' (maybe from the stuff that went on at the Stardust and other joints they owned), then again each decade. What do you think?

I'll take Vegas any day of the week over Chicago. Even the stuff I've negatively made points about elsewhere. The people are nicer here than in Chicago. Most of the people I knew back there were drama kings/queens. A good amount were friendly to your face. It didn't take much for someone to gossip when someone else is not around. The people are much more laid back out here and much easier to deal with.

Vegas benefits over Chicago

1. Weather
2. No Toll Roads
3. Lesser Property Tax
4. Lesser Association Fees. A friend of mine is playing $340 a month for a condo association fee back in the City of Chicago.
5. State Taxes/City of Chicago Sticker, even though this is certainly evened up by our registration tax
6. Lesser Rush Hour Traffic. The worst we get here is a five mile jam. Back there you can get twenty from O'Hare to Downtown.
7. People back there are general busybodies. They have "gapers" on the highway causing traffic jams all over. People will actually stop and stare at what's going on to hold up traffic. People back in Chicago also have a staring problem. You can pull up to a street corner. Some moron in the next car is staring a hole though you like you killed his dog.
8. People back there modifying cars that have no business being modified to look like a sports car...aka: The Honda Civic.

I hear it's better in the suburbs back there. I lived in the city limits for thirty years.

Chicago is still better than Vegas...

1. Food
2. Arts/Museums
3. Lakefront in Summer (It's four hours to the ocean from here)

You can tell the difference between the two cities by going to each airport.

Chicago might have the lake, but they don't have any mountains. I couldn't live anyplace that doesn't have mountains. Besides...we have a pretty large lake too (although the Great Lakes are more like oceans). You're right about the food though. I came from a town that has really good Italian food, and never thought I'd find a place where it was better until I went to Chicago.

I do have to agree with you.....I think it's too much population, too fast.

A lot of change can be attributed to the Hughes Corporation when they made 'the boys' an offer they couldn't refuse....and they bought out all the 'good' mobsters and let the really low life ones move in.....

It's hard to find a good 'bent nose' anymore......

I call this passive agressive.
What are people like in Nevada, in the suburbs- ???
People are pretty decent here until you put them into a Wal*Mart. Something happens to people when they are there that makes them very aggitated and hyper.

In terms of everyone else during peroids of being outside of Wal*Mart, if you are nice to them, they are nice to you. In front of and behind your back.

Please keep holding the door open! THere are some of us out here who truly want to believe that chivalry is not dead, and gentlemen still exist. We will smile and say thank you, too.

I, in turn, will hold the door for you.

Default The Verdict Is In!!

Just got back from the week-end in Vegas...spent pretty much all of our time off of the strip in Henderson and Green Valley Ranch and I have to say... People were nice, people said Hi to me first, most every time... We met with a realtor, who knowing that we were still undecided, just drove us around neighborhoods and showed us good places for famlies, she showed us a house (knowingly a forclosure that she figured we wouldn't want) just so we could see the style most homes are.. she spent 3 hours of her day doing this.. Yes, I am sure for future business and referrals but it was still nice.. Generally felt quite at home in the areas we visited. Someone suggested that we check out the Summit apartments--@ sunridge (I think).. Lamping school is the name of the elementary (I think, again) which a few ppl told us was one of the best.
We put ourselves (in our rental car) on the 215 during rush hour just to see and it was NOTHING compared to the drive I do every day in MN. The areas looked very clean and the parks were great in comparison to MN. I did see some trash on the road and a bit of graffti here and there, but that made me feel like I was at home in Mpls... (meaning- that crap is everywhere, I believe)..I even saw a flyer on a mailbox in Anthiem (spell?) for the Bug Bully, which was too funny-- as I see his posts on here... it was a good experience.. and much better time then I have had on previous visits were my husband had me walk up and down the strip, casino hoping...
