Oh I see...just thought I would ask. The main reason I am so interested in Henderson is because its much closer to home, so Reno would deff not be an option.

Presuming that "home" is in Southern California you can live about anywhere in Las Vegas. Much of the South and SW is actually closer tna much of Henderson. I suggest that is not a good criteria.

By miliatry base are you referring to Nellis? If so you might consider some other areas. The commute to Nellis from Henderson is perfectly doable but there are much easier ones. Schools are a part of this discussion. Henderson has a number of fine schools as does Summerlin and the NW. It also makes a difference which schools...elementary, middle or high schools. Again Henderson and Summerlin are well set. But neither is a convenient commute to Nellis. There are however parts of Aliante and west of there that work quite well.

Any of these areas will get you on 15 in 20 minutes or less. Than it is 3 1/2 to 4 hours to LA.

See now for me I think Vegas and I think of the strip...LOL Little do I know right? Now If I were to look in Vegas which areas should I look at? Perferable a distance away from the strip...Does Vegas have a better rep for schools?

General rule of thumb - Go where the money is. If you pick the zip codes with the top income you will find good schools and nice housing. However you have to live in a house 60% the size and with twice the commute.

I would go with the longer commute. I liked the earlier suggestion of Henderson or Summerlin. If your husband works at Nellis you also have to consider where you will work in terms of a commute. There are 5-6 hospitals near Summerlin that would require little or no highway travel. From Henderson you are looking at the St. Rose facilties & a few on the near east side. From North Las Vegas, by the way, there are a few city hospitals in the center of town as well as a smaller facility right in the heart of NLV.
