Driving door to door it probably takes about the same time as driving to LAX, parking, security, flight, etc.
That's exactly right. Usually the drive isn't bad at all but now and then it can be a nightmare.

Where would you say the majority of people visiting Las Vegas from CA drive from?
L.A? San Diego? Northern CA?

I don't know if you have a good grasp of the vast distances here in the West. Mapquest says the drive from San Francisco would be 8 hrs 41 min. I think the trip would be more like 10 or 12 hours. I think San Francisco (never call it Frisco) is considered Northern Calif. but Calif. goes a lot further north than that. Almost any place in Calif. other than the LA or San Diego areas are kind of far to drive and take the better part of a day. Most driving in the West is fairly easy, but I've found California driving to be kind of a pain.

At about 80MPH which most people drive on I-15. You do have more people on the 15 doing 100+ than anywhere else I've seen in 37 states.

Victorville 3 hrs
Riverside 3 1/2hrs
L.A. 4hrs
Anaheim 4hrs
Huntington Beach 4+ hrs
San Diego 5 1/2 hrs

As many others have said. Don't drive up on a Friday evening. Don't drive down to So Cal on a Sunday or either way on a holiday. It took my wife and me six hours to get to Anaheim on a Sunday. I've heard worse. Nothing like traffic in Baker.

Well... we'll see what happens with gas prices, but for right now its cheaper to drive from LA to Vegas than it is to fly. Once you consider, taxis, rental cars, etc... its a no brainer. Now in terms of how you get from there to here, I guess it comes down to how fast you can get to I-15 from where you are in LA. Thats really the only straight way in. Most take the I-10 to the I-15.
