Just curios how long the drive would be. from Aliente to the strip in heavy traffic hours. Was thinking about a starter house in that area because i can get a fair price and don't want to get in over my head the first year in vegas. I doubt i will get a job on the strip but was just wondering how long it takes with bad traffic to get there. Thanks for any information.

Depends on where in Aliante and where on the Strip...it's four miles long...and what time of day (why do they call it rush hour when everyone is standing stiil?)...and the route you take...freeway or surface streets. But some days you'll breeze over there in 20 minutes, and some days it will take an hour. I'd probably take the beltway to U.S. 95 to I-15 during non rush hour. But that would be longer in miles than surface streets. Do a MapQuest on it. MapQuest - Driving Directions - Map Directions

Thanks buzz, was just trying to get an idea of how bad traffic really gets.. Here in west la i can get somewhere in 5 mins but on a bad day takes on the up side of of 30 mins. I just like to know worst case scenario and then can see if i can handle that. Thanks for the input,...

Our traffic here is never as bad as LA. For one thing we have a lot more left turn signals. During rush hour it can be pretty slow, but it's generally pretty easy to get around town.

The secret to this town is surface streets, rarely will you find it faster on the Highways during the busy times. I live near Aliente and most of the time when I need to meet up with family on the strip or at Fremont I start with Decatur and right it down to the appropriate cross street.

I figure everything on an online map site first and then over time actually drive the routes to get the reality of the situation, but less then 2 years later I know just about all the fast ways into the strip now.

FYI: There is Aliante, which is where i live and Aliente, an apt complex near Summerlin. I am sure they are easily confused by changing a letter after the i.

thanks pink string i was looking more towards the area. not the complex .. the prices seemed affordable. Also the feed back ive read sounds like people like that area ok i dont mind being far from the strip. Now i just need to find a job lol.. i was thinking about buying while i live here so i can get the loan easier. Then come on my days off to find a job, i know this is opposite of what would be best but getting a loan with a newer job is tough. And i know i could find a job somewhere but not sure how long that would take would hope i could find one in the first month but would have backup so if it took me a year i would still be ok..

I always recommend people rent first before buying. So if you end up not liking where you live, you can always move and are not stuck with a mortgage payment. And then you can scout out the valley and see what else is out there, and then buy once you really know for sure. And by then, you will have built up your employment record and that may help in getting a home loan easier. (at least i think so)

yea i was thinkin about renting also , but seems like now is a good opportunity to buy i could get a mortgage for just a bit more then renting, and if you rent allot of times you get comfortable in where you are and hard to move again. So for me might be better just to buy and force myself to do what i have to do to make it. But im gonna make sure tohave a few positive job leads before i make the jump.. We are actually going to drive out tonight and stay for a couple days to scout the areas that are in the good price range to see what they are like.
