Hi all, I have a new build and recently hired a company to do my sod and irrigation.
They placed the sprinklers and did not do any rough grading to the ground and there are large amounts of large weeds and I'm not very sure the ground was leveled correctly to allow rainwater to run away from the house vs toward.
My main concern is that the ground wasn't prepped well and now I think only a final/fine grading can be done given there is a sprinkler system in the ground.
Could this potentially cause problems with my sod?
How important is an initial rough grading and leveling?
Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Adjusting sprinkler height is trivial and you could regrade after roughing in a sprinkler system. The only thing you can't do is grade any part lower than the main PVC. If they seriously didn't grade it, worst case scenario would probably be to pull all the sprinklers off the main line, grade everything, reinstall the sprinklers back.

why would you install sod in the desert in new construction?

Runoff from the sprinklers will probably not be a problem unless you are over-watering. I would be more worried about runoff from one of our intense rainstorms.

In the front yard, you don't even have a choice: No turf allowed in front yard in new construction, up to 50% or 100 square feet, whichever is larger is allowed in side and rear yards.

THANK YOU!!!

IMHO installing sod shouldn't even be an option these days.

The yard would have been rough graded by the home builder. Unless you've made major alterations (concrete structures, retaining walls, etc) then you should be fine.

Installation of sprinkers and sod doesn't typically include re-grading.

Is op still around?

I recently got scammed by some landscapers, I wonder if it was the same crew

Small areas of grass are fine, so what if it's the desert?
By that same argument none of us should live here, it's really stupid. We burn through electricity just to keep us cool. Should we ban AC too?

Some of us have dogs that need grass, not the fake stuff that burns their paws and ends up stinking
