Thinking of going to Vegas for our anniversary since we were married there but now we have two kids ages 7 and 12. Is it a good idea to bring them? Keep in mind we won't be wondering the streets after dark but just during the day.

Its starting to get pretty hot. Hopefully you are not planning on coming until the Fall.

I see lots of families in LV and on the strip toting kids; I really don't think its the best place for a family vacay. Lots of better choices. Come without the kids; you'll have a lot more fun

Now while it's still an adult town, there is plenty for the kids to do. Question is: how much are you willing to sacrifice?

I've been to Vegas dozens of times, with kids, and without kids. When the kids are there, it's obviously a bit more subdued. Perhaps when they fall asleep you can leave them be in the room for a bit while you and the wife hit the casino floor, your 12 y.o. is of responsible babysitting age, but that's the extent of your adult fun.

Are you comfortable walking around with your kids, and drinks? That's up to you.

There is M&M world, Hersheys, Excalibur midway, NY NY roller coaster, Eiffel tower, Bellagio fountains, Sigfried and Roy Animal Garden, Stratosphere rides, and the Adventuredome. Also go karts, Johns Incredible Pizza, other things sprinkled about.

If it is in the hot weather you might consider staying at Mandalay Bay which has the best pool set up for kids.

My grandchildren have been regulars here every other year since they were 8 or so. They like it. For a kid it is not anyplace near as neat as LA but different. And there are some really neat things.

So I would not hesitate to bring them.

If with kids (which I will not do- there are so many other places to go) I would focus on day trips and things off the strip. I don't find the strip the best place for kids.

Sorry but pre-teen and teenagers absolutely love the strip. And there is nothing about the strip that kids would not like. My granddaughters would have spent a week going touring and hitting the various pools and gardens if allowed.

Costs some dough though not terrible.

And again not up to LA or Orlando for kids. But beats the hell out of Chicago.

I pick up families on vacation every day. There is plenty to keep the kids entertained.

My kids love it too.

Come on. The kiddies are not into naked broads or counting cards or expensive booze. That is for the adults.

But they enjoy the fountains, the amusement rides, the animal exhibits and the crowds of crazy adults on the sidewalks.

If I was raising kids here they would make few trips to the strip. But passing through every few years? It is a significant treat. Gets to be a bit of a pain as they get 18 or 19 as the strip is not very permissive and tends to enforce the age limits. Not true anywhere else in the US.
