Put it this way... they will probably be exposed to a few scandalous things here or there during your visit... but probably nothing more than what they would be exposed to by watching an hour of your local news if you live in a big city.

We and our kids loved our family vacation to Vegas. Stayed at Aria and never left the strip. This was a couple of years ago(they were 7 and 11 at the time) and they are always asking to go back. Of course it was different than when we go without them but it was really a lot of fun.

Amen! I fell in love with Vegas the first time I went, when I was 17. Yeah, we couldn't drink, we couldn't gamble, we even got yelled at for talking near slot machines just deciding where to go next, because you can't stand anywhere without a slot machine near by. But it was definitely the coolest city I had ever seen and from the first moment, I loved it.

I actually don't drink anymore, either, and I got asked by my dad's friend, "You don't drink, but you love Vegas? What do you do there if you don't drink?!" I found it funny, because there is so much to do that isn't drinking related. I don't gamble, either, but I do play Hold 'Em (which isn't gambling, it's a game of skill and thus the only thing I play and have made money on throughout my life). I love the goofy and fun things like Coke World, their two full trays of Coke from other parts of the world is so awesome, there are gaming arcades, heck one of the best retro arcades in the nation is in Las Vegas (one of the others is in my city, Ground Control), there's all kinds of awesome pools and I love swimming, there's a fantastic water park that I think is open again right? (it was there first when I was there like 17 years ago), and there are all of those random little activities and cool places like the Rainforest Cafe. I am never bored on the Strip, I always want to keep walking around and finding new cool things. It's so much fun.

I just did this recently. It was an eye opening experience to be sure. Alcohol around kids I would say is a tough one when the adults want to get in a vacation for themselves as well. Children are not emotionally or mentally prepared to handle that environment and may have difficulty adjusting, especially if it's their first experience. Plus you'll be scooted along at the casinos in areas where kids aren't allowed even if their parents are present. There are definitely adult things on the Strip, downtown, and in various stores while shopping that I would say aren't very age appropriate for kids and the staff don't hesitate to remind you of it. It certainly raised my awareness and had me questioning several times if this was right for them at that age. However, there are several areas and attractions along the Strip that are very kid friendly and it can be done. Your vacation may just be limited to the kid friendly areas.

About 20 years or so ago, Las Vegas tried to market itself as a family-friendly destination. How'd that work out? Can your kids have a good time here for vacation? Sure. Can you? Sure. Can you have a good time here with your kids? That's a tougher call. As one of the posts above indicated, your happiness will depend on how satisfied you are with the compromises you will make to care for your kids and their entertainment in Las Vegas. I would recommend against it. There are plenty of better options for a family vacation destination that require far fewer compromises.

This sums it up well!

There are SO MANY places that are SPECIFICALLY for kids. Though LV has some kid stuff, it's really more specifically for adults. Take your kids to the kid specific places while they are kids. They can visit LV when they grow up.

Ha ha!

Gives the kids a goal, see what we get to do after we are 21!

There are kids here all the time, especially the summer.

Don't bother me, I'm on the strip at least once a week.

Just tell them not to stand around contemplating their navel on a busy walkway. Keep things moving.

If anyone comes with a stroller, check with the hotel. Wynn won't let you bring a stroller in unless you are staying there.

If you're not ok making compromises on your vacations, probably don't have kids? I don't ever want kids, nor does my girlfriend, I can't understand the appeal at all. But I presume that IF you want kids, you're prepared to make compromises and understand your vacations simply won't be as good as mine will be. Your day to day life won't be as pleasant and stress-free as mine is. You won't have as much money to spend on yourself. These are all basic things that any parent should already understand :P
