And yes it has some bad schools. But it also has very good ones. Its overall score is about par for any large school district with a high minority population. It is, for instance, better than LA or NYC.

NV often score badly on education and such because it is one of the most urban cities in the US. It basically consists of one big city and one small city and not much else. If however LV is compared to other large cities it looks much better. Not great but remarkably average.
I'll wager that if I went back into business I couldn't charge $100 an hour like I did in Iowa.

My favorite is the guy who fixes gas fire places. He is quite good at it. He charges $100 to make a service call and then another $100 to fix it. He has virtually all the required parts in his truck and can diagnose one in 10 minutes flat and fix it in another 15. He includes the cheap parts in his price but charges parts cost for the few more expensive parts. I figure he is doing $150 an hour. And he appears to be booked pretty well.

The internet tends to bring out the worst in people, so maybe that's it? haha. If all these problems exist then why does everyone stay?
That's why I voted for Trump buddy. To have all these issues fixed that's been addressed nationally and not in just the state of Nevada.

I won't need to. You just need to pay attention to what's going on outside your day job.

Having made many many trips to LV over the years and comparing it to other places, I knew it was the place where I wanted to spend my retirement. I no longer have the stresses of the working life and being pretty comfortable financially my biggest problem is deciding which golf course to play.

I happen to really like the desert and the LV area, but I could probably be happy almost anywhere that has a climate warmer than Chicago.

Default here almost two years

I moved here from Chicago two years ago. I really do not miss all of the snow and cold there. Many things here are cheaper... property taxes being much much lower. No state income tax is great too. The streets are much nicer..smoother to drive on. I find it much cleaner here also. Not having to mow a huge lawn once a week is fantastic! No humidity here is great. Every part of the country has bad things too of course. I bad thing to one person may be ok to another. IM retired so i don't have to work in the heat in the summer. That is huge! I feel sorry for anyone that works outside during the hot hot summer months. I don't know how they do it. A couple of not so nice things to me... huge registration fees for a car. The newer the car, the more you pay each year. Car insurance is much higher here too even though i have a perfect driving record and dont' drive many miles per year. The water bill is about 70% higher than in Chicago also. All told.... i really love it here. Its a great place to retire. Tons of great places to eat and drink. Im a small time sports better so i enjoy the sportsbooks and of course...love to play poker here!
Just a few of my thoughts.

Other places change but not nearly so drastically. There was always a very Vegas way of doing things that is gone.

But newcomers are happy with it because it's a little different from where they came from. Of course they aren't TRULY happy until it's EXACTLY like where they came from.

That's already started and it scares the crap outta me.

Only gaming places we have been in for the last six months are the local pubs and supermarkets. Have not bet a dollar in longer than that. The vast majority of Las Vegans are that way though there are some who thrive on bingo or video poker.
