I wasn't sure what to call this, but I just have a basic question. How far south do you have to go to be out of the McCarran Airport flight path and not have planes buzzing over your head? This was something I was thinking about looking at houses (in Henderson) online.

Last November we did not look at any places north of the 215 so it was not an issue. Having seen some nice places a little north of the 215 I was thinking anything south of Warm Springs would be okay?

My wife now has her Nevada Nursing License and the house here will go on the market May 1st, so we are getting close. There is no rush and I just want to be out of here before next winter, but the sooner the better. It really just depends on how fast this house sells.

Default planes

i live just north/west of Galleria drive. Planes come overhead all the time. I lived in Chicago near O'hare airport my whole life. IM so used to planes that in fact it seems too quiet when they don't come over our house lol. To me its not problem at all. I guess its just what your used to

There is no place in the Las Vegas valley that doesn't have airplane noise at times. Depending upon the wind, airplanes may take off and land north-south or east-west. I live in the southernmost part of Southern Highlands and the occasional noise doesn't bother me at all. It sounds like $$$ coming to Las Vegas.

South of the 215 and East of Eastern should be fine. Close enough to the airports that the line of the runways would determine where low flying planes would be, and out of line with the runways.

There's a web site that has the departure maps for airports, showing the standard departure and arrival routes.

Ok, found it: https://www.airnav.com/airport/LAS

Maybe you can plot all of these on a Google Map and share it with the rest of us.

Las Vegas has so many planes and choppers in the air all the time that it's impossible to avoid. I found a lot of the noise has to do with the altitude of the planes in the flight path when they go over your area. Flights in and out are pretty constant. If you find a house you like that's near a flight path, take a picnic lunch and spend an hour there. Then you will know!

Agreed, you cannot avoid it north of the 215 in Green Valley. Can't speak for everyone, but personally I don't even notice it 85% of the time because it's constant. It just blends in with the environment. Now if a B2 Bomber or something took off you would notice that ish!

Look at the direction of the airport runways on a map. There are several smaller airports around the valley so you are unlikely to completely avoid air traffic. I think Yellowsnow pretty much has the answer and that is to sit in one area long enough to evaluate what works for you.

Keep in mind there are 4 different runway configurations in use at McCarran. Some days almost every departure goes over my house, other days I have zero noise.
