Don't expect ground will be broken for the 1.14 mile extension during the 1st half of 2017, the monorail company did not provide a new estimate on when construction would begin.

Concerns abound that the construction cold damage or block a water pipeline vital to the Strip.

McCarran Int'l Airport staff is also reviewing the monorail's extension plans to determine whether the route will travel onto airport property.

Given how the Clark County Commissioners are dependent on campaign funds from the taxi unions, Lyft and Uber.............................................. ......................................, how many of you think there's something fishy about this story?

What next?

Indian relics discovered where one of the 80 columns will stand? Remnants of an old Mormon found along the path?

God forbid! Tina Quigley, of the RTC, dreaming of a subway down the Strip!! Imagine the endless delays of building something like that!!

In lieu of the Mandalay Extension, why not then extend it to Fremont Street? No water pipelines on that route!!!

More like the possible delay in the vote until mid-year to get the NFL here has everything to do with it. I'm telling you all this monorail extension is directly related to that stadium.

The mention that they're looking into expanding it to the airport is a good sign too.

I suspect it is contingent on the stadium's ability to get off the ground. The airport situation would cause a need for a change in policy. Currently, you're not allowed to enter the station with any sort of luggage. That's done for safety but it not a typical policy for public transit.

I wonder if that fear is part of the dragging of the feet although the transportation lobbyists surely have something to do with it. Connecting the monorail to the airport would cause the declining taxi industry to see even wider revenue drops.

The Airport is making a lot of money off Uber and Lyft, drop off charges, etc.

They can make as much or more from a surcharge on trips to and from the airport. Lots of transit systems have situations where a trip to the station before the airport is $2-3 and then the airport trip is $7. All of that could buy off airport support. Nothing however will buy off taxi support

The airport discussion was dealing with the extension to Mandalay Bay not to the airport proper. Apparently the routing would impign on airport property.

I can see little possibility of a subway down the strip. Too much stuff buried under there. Only way to go would be way deep which is way expensive.

Eventually they haig something down the middle of the strip that hits each block and provides a tourist attraction and ties to the airport...but it is not the monorail...

Another beneficiary now to not expand the Monorail to the Airport, or getting even a light rail line built from the Airport and down the Strip to Fremont!

The Feds have been financially assisting light rail projects all across the country, for years now, but, there's a proviso to that assistance, it must be built for residential use. And a line down the Strip doesn't qualify for Federal assistance, as it serves tourists, not residents, which explains why Tina Quigley, Head of RTC, is pushing a line from the Airport, down Maryland, to downtown and to UMC, bypassing the Strip.

Light Rail is absolutley perfect for the LV Valley and the Strip that is why it will never happen effectively. We have a large population who work in one general area.

Latest on the monorail extension from the MGM to Mandalay Bay doesn't look hopeful at all, as the Monorail company can't find financing for the extension, and the Clark County Commissioners aren't about to lend a hand.

Hmmm........Makes me wonder if they had planned to extend it to the Airport, then would some bankers be more eager to finance it?

So where's the big celebration going to be held, with Uber, Lyft and the Taxi Drivers, with no extension to Mandalay Bay?

Gotta say one thing about this city, stuck in the 1960's, is if it doesn't give you laughs, then what will?

The Monorail is the red headed step child of the strip. No one wants it, no one cares about it, and no one wants to pay for it. This thing's losing money hand over fist. At some point it's going to go belly up, and the remains of the track will sit unused behind the strip for years, like the pillars for the ferris wheel at the south end of the strip.
