This is not a medical issue. It's a law enforcement and/or national security issue.

Welp, sorry to be the one to break it to you but the AMA has already declared it a public health crisis.

I never said islam. I said ideology which is defined as a system of ideas and ideals, especially one that forms the basis of economic or political theory and policy. I know the statistics.

We have an irresponsible media pushing people to extremes. Racial tensions. Political tensions. Religious tensions. Everything is being exacerbated by the constant barrage of news stories. That coupled with our instant access to world wide coverage of events is too much for some people to handle. They snap and go on a killing spree. Despite what we're being told worldwide violence is on the decline and has been for a long time. America peaked in the early 90s and has steadily dropped every subsequent year. 8,000 people get killed by guns every year. The vast majority of them are gang and drug related.
475 people were killed in mass murders last year. 475.... 40,000 were killed by incompetent drivers. In 2016, a tick over halfway through the year, drunk drivers have killed 19,000 people.
The police have killed more people this year than were killed in mass murders.

Medical errors have killed 138,000 people this year.
Accidents killed 75,000.
Alcohol killed 55,000
24,000 people have killed themselves.
Drug abuse has killed 14,000
Drowning killed 2100 people.
1500 people starved to death.
802 people were killed by their spouse in domestic disputes.
429 people killed smoking in bed.

By the end of the year, more people will have died smoking in bed than in mass murder. The news doesn't report these so people don't know about them. 475 killed in mass murder in 2015. About 5,000 pedestrians were hit by cars in the same year.

I don't fear people with guns. I don't fear people with bombs. I fear people with cars.

I said I'm not saying anyone is doing that yet. After that I cautioned going there in general in this thread in regards to this topic. There's a 25+ page about that already in Politics and Other Contorversies that I had the displeasure of viewing recently, but that's not here or now.

I went to edit to add the link and the time had expired on the previous post to do that.

This is the recent AMA announcement I'm talking about that came after the Orlando shooting. It talks about the upcomg fight against Congress and all the details here.

This is the kind of crap that got the funding banned.

Conduct research on the causes and prevention of gun violence, including links between video games, media images and violence

Better understand how and when firearms are used in violent death

  • Establish a science advisory blue ribbon panel — perhaps under the auspices of the OSTP’s Principal Advisor for SBE Sciences — to advise the administration and help ensure existing scientific evidence is used to inform policy. [OSTP: Office of Science and Technology Policy; SBE Sciences: Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences]
  • As a longer term response, fund a National Academies of Science (NAS) study to develop a 21st century research agenda, relevant to various federal agencies (e.g., NIH, FBI, CDC, NSF and DoJ) to inform gun violence prevention and intervention efforts. An updating of the NAS 2004 report, “Firearms and Violence,” to fill gaps in knowledge would be very helpful in this regard.
