Well I'm continuing my search for the apartments. And I came upon this interesting deal. Americana Apartments seems to offers paid utilities, free cable+internet and furnished one bedrooms for only $640/month.
The address is
335 East Harmon
Las Vegas, NV 89119 which is just a little way to the strip and behind Hard Rock Casino which would be perfect since ill be working on the strip.
Yet I'm feeling quite suspicious about this place. The price seems to be much cheaper than most apartments, and offers all these great amenities.
So if anyone ever lived there or lives close to there is it a really horrid area? Or what is wrong with it that the price is quite low? Or is it just a good deal?

Not a great area, that's why it's so cheap. Cheap=crappy. The more you pay, the better the apt. However, if you are a big burly guy that carries a gun for protection, maybe a few knives, etc, you might like it there. You probably get free furnished pets there as well: cockroaches.

Here is a better starting point if you want a cheap apt. They are older, but the area isn't quite so bad as Americana..although i cannot attest to the livability of Sunchase, someone recommended them, so i do too: www.sunchaselv.com
Again, they aren't the best, but they aren't the worst.

Could you give me an estimate of how much would the utilities cost for a one bedroom? I guess I'll either have to live with the free pets or find a roommate

Electric will run from $50 in the winter to $100 in the summer. Most of the older places (which is what you'll end up in with your price range) are all electric, so you'll have no gas. Water/sewer are usually included. Buy a cell phone and don't waste the $ on a land line phone. Cable will be at least $40 if you need it, and the same for broadband.

Check out Century Village on Spencer just north of Trop. I lived there for a while back in 95 and it wasn't bad. My MIL lives around the corner, so we still go past when we visit and it still looks prety decent. I just checked the rates, and a 1 br is now $735 (it was like $400 when I was there....lol), so that might be more than you're looking for.

Just found an apartment at 1405 Vegas Valley Dr, it says its behind Sunrise Hospital. Since Its a hospital area I would assume it could be pretty safe up there? Thank you for all the help!

Out of the frying pan into the fire. Local neighborhood worse than Harmon...and Maryland Pkwy is worse than the strip....

Pukalo, if your monthly budget is small, you will end up in a crappy or scary area, that's just the way it is. Another bet: Go to Craigslist and find a roommate situation. You can then live in a great area, share a nice house and have a much better experience in this town. And then again, just hope your roommates aren't weirdos.

I used to know a guy in Henderson with a 4,000 SF home and he would rent out rooms with house privileges for $450-$500 a month. Now there's a deal.
i wonder if he still does that..i'll have to look him up and find out.

pukalo, what is your criteria for apts? Does it matter if it's considered a dangerous neighborhood? Or would you rather live in an area where your stuff will still be there when you get home every night?
