Hello,

My swimming pool need to be replastered. Do you know any good company that do this job? is it possible that I can do it myself? My pool is 15 ft wide and 30 ft long from 3ft to 6 ft. it is cement. The paint at the bottom of the pool is starting to peel and a few chips. your suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

I would strongly suggest against doing it yourself- you'd end up saving very little and undoubtedly end up with poor results unless you plaster for a living. Two companies to consider (if they're still around- I've been out of LV since 99) would be Peak Plastering and Davis.

Okay, a swimming pool plastering co came and gave me an estimate. It would cost $3,000 including everything and title cleaning. Is that too much?

$3k sounds like a very good price, assuming that they're chipping all of the old plaster off and not just sandblasting to roughen the surface. We were paying $3k for a good replaster job back in 99, so either prices haven't changed, or someone really wants your business.

I asked him are they going to chip all of the plaster off or sandblasting to roughen the surface?

How much are you going to put plaster in the pool? 3/8 inches or 1/2 inches or what?

thier response was:

There is two ways to prep your pool. You get a better looking pool if you bond coat your pool. The material we use is multi coat and has been in business for over 50 year. When you do a total chip out, there is a good chance that you remove big chucks of gunite out and start to expose the rebar.

What do you think???

I think as long as there is a good bond with the bottom layer... you should be fine. For $3K I think its a good deal. You don't want to chip to much material off and go into the gunite and risk exposing the rebar. Ask them for references of other customers they have done recently and call them to see if they are reputable and if their work is good? Are they going to give you a good warranty?
