New to desert landscaping. Seems some neighbors water everyday in the
summer. Some two times a week. Some water for 5 minutes twice a day,
some for 1/2 hour. Everyone seems to have their own opinion of what's
the right way to do it. I just moved in to a home with established plants and
don't know what to do. I have canary island date palms, lantana, rosemary
pyracantha and a few roses. The automatic timer is labeled for winter, one
day a week for 30 minutes, but with summer on the way, what to do?
What's your routine? Thanks for any help.

Fives minutes twice a day for three years now. (45 minutes apart)
Perfect schedule for my Lantanas, Holly Oak, Sun Flowers, Sage Brush and Mums.

I follow the watering schedule, but right now I'm delaying the switch to 3 times a week until it starts to get hot. Summer time 7 days a week is a must so the grass stays green. Winter 1 day a week keeps everything alive and kicking.

Three times a day, 3:15 am, 9:30 pm, and 11:45 pm, 4 minute run for drips and grass sprinklers.

I turn them off when a good rain comes through and save that way too. Last couple of good rains I had them off for a couple weeks straight.

I, too, follow the watering schedule. I live in Group C, and on Mar 1st changed it to M/W/F. 3 minutes, 3 times, 3 days. 3:00a, 6:00a, and 11:00p. I'll switch to every day on May 1. Nothing has died yet.

wow ..so much for deep watering. I always heard that desert landscaping needed infrequent watering but deep watering when you do. 3 min or 5 min just a few times (drip irrigation ) wouldn't go very deep i wouldn't think but I'm no expert.

Everything is on the same schedule. I have desert landscaping in the front (rocks, lantana, some sort of sharp green thingy, and a hedge under my office window), and grass in the back with a palm tree and a hedge. The grass sprinklers and the drip irrigation are on the same schedule, and, so far, everything has been good. Maybe it's just the plants in the front don't need much..

Mine run a minimum of 20 minutes each time they run. I use Toro 2GPH drip emitters. Run time probably isn't that useful without knowing the emitter rate.

Had a man look at some troubled plants in our yard (new residents) and he told me the reason they were not doing well was that they didn't get a deep watering for years and the acidity in the soil hadn't leached out. As a result the plants suffered. Most of them need to be pulled out and replaced because of it.

I hope I have that close to right. We talked about a lot of stuff.
